I have 2004 dodge 1500 2wd with the 4.7 mag. I was hauling a semi heavy load and noticed that I lack power, what can I do to improve this?

A good tune up. Efan install, ported throttle body. High output cam from a HO 4.7. That's the limit to my knowledge on 4.7 upgrades.

Oh yeah, you could turbo or SC it lol

Edit: forgot to add you could change your gears in your diff(s), depending on what you have now. That'll help for towing.

Could you go custom-grind on a cam to meet the high output specs?

Yes, if I'm not mistaken that also requires something added to the stock valvetrain (lash caps or something like that, I don't do OHC lol).

I have owned a 3rd generation and now have a 4th generation both with the 4.7. I tow a 5,000lb livestock trailer. No extra power but adequate. I have 3.92 gears which helps.

Use tow/haul mode. I believe your model also has overdrive off, which can be used if tow/haul isn't sufficient.

4.56 gears and a tuner are the only mods I would consider for your application. Nothing else is going to improve your trucks ability to tow more than the gears and tuner will.

Upgrade gears to 4.56 is a world of a difference and will get better mpg loaded
