Found a 2001 dodge ram extended cab for sale. 104k miles. Drove it today and it seems nice. Guy is asking 6500 and I offered him 6 and he said ok. What do you all think? Is this a good deal? Anything I should lookout for? It is the 5.2 v8 engine. It is fairly clean inside and looks like a 2001 with 104k mikes on it under the hood. The 4x4 does work too. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like it MAY be a bit high on the price, but I'm not positive. Depends on the condition and mileage I suppose. How are the tires? Did you inspect for rust?

Sounds like a nice truck though from what you posted. Good luck on your potential purchase!

Tires are in great shape. I would say they are less than a year old and they are nice bfg all terrains. There is one spot on the bed of the truck where there is a small dent and some rust right there but a friend of mine has a body shop so I am sure he would not charge me much to fix that area. It is in pretty good shape overall. There is some slight damage to the front bumper on the corner but it isn't bad. Just the bumper cover has a slight crack in it.

Will the seller let you do a comp test on it or take it to a shop to have it gone over before you buy it?

Weak ponits on these trucks are

    Cracked heads
    Bad rear end lsd's
    Weak auto tranys
    Plenum gasket for sure
Unit bearings on the front diff
    Dash caps breaking into bits

I could ask him he might. I didn't know there were that many things that went wrong with them. I am a ford/Chevy guy normally so this is my first experience with a ram.

Fair price on kbb is 5995. Do they typically go for that much less than book?

I gave you an honest list, all makes have there problems. Once you get past this minor stuff they are great trucks ez to work on cheap to fix.
