Your Chevy's 6L80e transmission has a 4:03 1st gear + 3:08= 7:11 total. The ZF 8spd has 4:71 1st gear + 3.21= 7:92. That being said your Ram with 3:21's should pull circles around the Chevy.

Long standing bone of contention with GM by both Silverado and Sierra owners, why did GM put 3.08 gears in a truck with two overdrive gears in the trans. The 6.2L come with a 3.23. 5.3 comes with a 3.08 unless the order sheet is checked off for a 3.42 gear. TO make matters worse, the 3.08 carrier only accepts 3.08 gears. For what I do with my Ram 3.21'a are fine, 3.55's would have been better, but not a deal breaker. Can't really say I'd need 3.92's with the 8 speed.

I came from a 05 chevy z71 with a 5.3 loved the truck everything but the guttless tuning GM had on it .
I found it to be very disappointing power wise just driving it empty and once a trailer was hooked up to it I got to where I hated it.
I had a 02 Chevy Hd with a 6.0 before that and it was the worst pulling truck I had ever bought with the overly high geared transmission and why I have a 1500 with the 8sp now.

With that said my 2016 Ram 5.7 Hemi 8sp and 3:21s would out pull either of those trucks without breaking a sweat and get alot better fuel mileage doing it.
Very happy I bought my Ram and only have 14,000 miles on it so cant speak about long term, but will say they have a problem with breaking manifold bolts.

I purchased a CPO last year and also got the FCA LIFETIME warranty for a few grand extra. You must remain the owner as it is not transferrable, but it is available for CPO vehicles, not just brand new ones. It was worth it to me since I plan on keeping it a long time.

Check the maintanence history, ask for a carfax on it and have your own mechanic check it out if you want. Most of the time vehicles around 30k miles are ok with regular maintainence, once you go higher miles the maintenance regime gets more important.
