Hey all, i have an 84 ram prospector with a 318 and the main seal is leaking bad I was wondering if there's a better way to fix it besides pulling the motor. I'm not real mechanically incline so some help would be appreciated.

If it's 4x4, you might get lucky and get the oil pan off and out of the way... Otherwise, you could get an engine hoist, unbolt the motor mounts, and lift enough to get the oil pan out. Then pull the rear main cap. And change the seals. The upper half will more than likely fight you to the bitter end, but it's the only way with an in vehicle repair like these, good luck.

you don't have to remove the engine. you just have to drop the oil pain which can be time consuming because you got to take the starter out and remove the inspection cover. you will also need a special tool for the job to remove the old seal and install the new one.
