Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the holiday.

I did a little self-gifting this year. :naughty:

My mid-70's era Government Model Colt 1911 A1 .45 ACP has fired its last round. After many thousands of rounds the original frame cracked near the slide stop orifice and it is no longer safe to fire. It may get rebuilt with some of the parts left over but it will never be original again. It will not leave my possession, however, as it has a certain sentimental value.

So it was time for a new carry piece and selecting one proved to be a challenge. There are so many new features, custom pieces and options available that it can become bewildering. However, after much research I found a piece the fits my needs and has some nice features.

Meet my new "leetle fren"... a Springfield Armory Champion Operator Lightweight .45ACP:

I think I'll bring along "Old Reliable" when I hit the range with the new piece. He deserves a little fun too.

Thanks! It feels good in the hand as well.

The 3-dot site system provides a quick and accurate site picture. All the controls (safety, slide release, etc...) are a bit stiff. I don't have a gauge to measure the trigger pull but my educated trigger finger (a lot like my butt dyno) sez it breaks at about 4.5 pounds, maybe a bit less. I'll measure that at the range later.

Yup..."Old Reliable" is a Ruger GP100 4" stainless. It has proven to be a very reliable and well built firearm.

I love me some Springfield 1911's. I'm want a Operator one day. But lately I have caught the H&K bug. And can't seem to stray away from them

    H&K is good stuff.

I'm just old fashioned I guess. Been carrying 1911's for years and can't seem to let go. :)

Very nice! Been wanting a 1911 for a long while now, but like you said, there are just so many variables and features to deal with, I don't even know where to begin.

    Thank you.

It is NOT easy to pick one. You can read, read and read some more but after a while you realized that although you understand what the specs are, you really need to put your hands on them.

I am fortunate to have several dealers and ranges in the area. That gave me the opportunity to spend some time with several handguns I was considering and fire them on a rental basis. That really, really helped with the decision!
