What kind of low end did you get with the regrind? Any loss like you would get with the 6.1?

Low end felt about the same, but look at the numbers, it was a mid high rpm cam. Mine was set up because during my conversations I told Stu my truck dies at the top of the track so we went with a cam that came alive and stayed alive at the top.

That's pretty good info to know that those type gains can be had from a cam that runs on a stock tune.

Nah, only difference is that you can use it multiple different makes and models instead of being model specific like the 3865. Oh, and it comes with a powertrain warranty too.

it's the Spartan cam 214/218 but with an aggressive lsa...it has to be custom tuned in order for it to idle.. same grind as the 6.1 regrind but is the dr. jekyll an mr. hyde grind

Sounds good, what is the LSA? I believe a standard Spartan grind is 114 LSA. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks,

I was set on the spartan on a 113lsa after taking a ride in chris's (03ramit1) truck last year, had the cam in hand, and ended up ditching it for the 268, which will hopefully be installed towards the end of the month.

cam selection for rc's and qc's are very different... if it works well in a qc doesn't mean it works for rc's...qc's need a torque cam, rc's need hp cams

What made you switch?

Did some research on it and found more people with rc's pulling the spartan for the 268 and getting better results/times because of the swap. Not saying its a bad cam obviously its not looking at chefreds times, but the 268 seemed to be the better choice for me.

you are correct Ryan, a 268 would work well in your rc, not so in my qc.

You guys are really fine tuning here when comparing QC and RC models. Looking at the two the QC are what 600 pounds heavier and something like 30" longer. The longer wheel base probably makes the biggest difference. Same basic engine mods, trans and gear ratio should give very similar results with the RC having only a slight advantage. Maybe a RC with 3000 stall, 4:56 with a XFI 273 would make a good combo. The XFI still has 114 LSA. Anyone have thoughts about tuning with the SMT6 or something other than SCT or DSP?

smt6 is like a piggyback compared to sct and diablo...without sct and diablo, smt and psc was the way to go but it could only adjust one thing..fuel trims. there is so much more parameters to adjust that smt/psc can't... and as aggressive as the xfi 273 is, we've seen no rams in the upper echelon of performance that run them..

there was a guy awhile back who was installing a 273 in his qc, other qc guys were telling him that it's too much of a high rpm cam for it to work well. he installed it anyways and I've never seen someone so disappointed in a cam selection as that guy. Again, rc's need hp cams, qc's need tq cam's..simple enough...
