I came across a great deal on a 1989 dodge d100 and had to to grab it. This is my first truck so new to dodge truck but have experience on other cars complete home mechanic not a professional, but after having it for a week really not much needs to be done just trying to figure out what exactly i have for future references.

So the car is short bed with power steering and brakes no a/c 3.9L v6 so the 293 if im correct, the tag under the hood is really faded but i was able to read the trans tag it said a998/a999 so i am confused on if its the 998 trans or 999 the truck is not 4x4

looks really clean!

didn't know dodge was still doing the d100 vs d150 into the late 80's. If the did stick with the original reasoning behind those numbers, your 100 will have lighter duty axles vs the 150. don't know if the emissions were any different by 89 though.

daily driver or any plans with it?

I been debating a 5.9 magnum swap to give it a little more power but for now just enjoy the drive cause the 3.9l still runs strong.....gas mileage is horrible in this truck i took it to work for the whole week last week and won't do that again lol but i still love the truck

nice looking truck. to answer your question. the 998/999 are the same transmission. it is a 32RH. it is a light duty transmission. if you do get a 360 or even a 318 magnum go for getting a 46RH(A518). the extra gear will help the truck save a lot more fuel when doing highway running

Nice truck. I believe Dodge rebadged the D100 in 1981 to Dodge Ram. If there is a number attached to it I think it would be 150.

they changed their weight rating in 81 but there was still a d100 off and on after 81. i believe they had them from 86-89. i am pretty sure they were built as a light 1/2ton truck to try and get around emissions for something like that

ended up getting a 5.2 out of a 98 durango and rebuilding it i'm in the process of putting it back together just ran into a problem I kept the rod caps and with the correct connecting rod but i didn't pay attention to direction the cap goes on and after getting the caps only torque to 20lbs i can't turn the crankshaft.

how can i tell which direction the cap goes on
