New tips! $100 mistake...

So I finally installed my new 5" double walled MBRP black tips on my truck



I was gonna weld them later this week and figured the clamps would do a good enough job... apparently not.... tip flew off on the highway and the 18 wheeler behind me almost lost control trying to avoid it, he didnt succeed....

No lie guys, I just ordered some and had a dream this EXACT thing happened to me!!!

I planned to do the same thing if they arrived during the week. Just put them on using the clamps until I got time to get them welded on the weekend.

NOT GONNA DO THAT NOW!

Holy crap; was the trucker pissed off?
After having the entire pass. side exhaust rear of the muffler fall off mine (and drag on the road I am a firm believer i welding.
And with nice tips like those, welding will make sure they don't grow feet and disappear, too. (have read threads of that!)

The tips have a bolt built in so you can tighten them down, I guess not enough lol

Its weird cause I made sure to pull on them real good and I couldnt pull them off. Must have been the heat and cool cycles that loosened them just enough.

Feel free to laugh all you want, I wasnt at first thats for sure. But now that ive chilled out- its pretty funny lol

I have a new one on order and picking it up tmr. THIS TIME THEY ARE GETTING WELDED!!

were they satin finished? Or just ....flat....? Sorry.

Id say more of a satin finish, it had the texture of flat paint but with a lil shine

that sucks......can the stock tips be painted with heat res. paint, or are these performance items?

Yeah I don't see why not. I just bought new ones cause the 4" were too small for my liking. Ive always like the double walled black tips, plus it was the only chrome left on the truck that had to go
