Hey all. Im looking to buy my first PW next week and Im looking at 3 trucks a 2012 33000$ with 55k miles good shape, a 2016 $40000 with 10kmiles and a brand new truck $47000

Ive owned several 1500s and love my rams. Im leaning more toward the 2012 that is mostly stock very clean. I figure with the extra cash saved I can do some mods right off the bat.

Is there any major differences between these years. Do the new ones have 15000$ worth of equipment to justify the new truck bug I have ?

It wont be my commuter, and I dont see ever needing to tow more than 10k# ever.

Thanks in advance!

Love my Hill Descent Control and 6.4L on my 2016. Neither were available on the 2012 Power Wagon.

Steep iced roads is where I use the HDC and there's still enough power at high altitude above 10,000 feet with the larger engine. I deal with both where I live for at least 8 months of the year.

There isn't going to be 15k worth of things that justify the cost, other than you're not driving around on 6 year old parts. The PW was meant to see mud, dirt, rocks, etc. so that means you have 6 years of potential abuse ( though, not " really " abuse ) on the various parts of te truck. Suspension, driveline, frame, engine components, etc. Miles are good, but this is a big truck, a truck with a purpose. It's also a 6 year odl winch :(

I'd go with the 2016 or the 2018 myself. I recently found a 2014 PW with 20k miles on it. I almost scooped it up until I found out it had the 5.7 hemi in it. So make sure that's not the case here. 2016 vs 2018 models are going to have slight differences depending on the trim you're looking at. Ultimately, between the one with less than 10k and the brand new one, after you pay for ttl it might break out even. If the MSRP is 47k on the new one, then you'd end up paying somewhere closer to 40-42 anyways, and at that point, new is the way to do!

if you can afford it i would buy the new one, if not then id get the 2016.

i paid 42k for a 2017 with 21k miles on it. The truck stickers for 59.5k and was very clean. The tech moves so fast now that if you buy a 2012 model its like buying a ten year old truck in my opinion. unless you plan to run it into the ground that truck will lose its value much faster than the 2018 or 2016.

Drop the 12 from consideration if you can. The interior upgrades alone were worth the wait for a newer model (it was either 13 or 14, I can’t remember), plus the 14 and up got you the 6.4, a coil spring rear suspension, and a trailing arm front suspension, all of which will handle much better on and off road. The ride on the newer ones will be far superior. To narrow down the last two, the 16 will have chrome bumpers and a grille, and as long as you’re not looking at a Tradesman with the power wagon package, the 18 will be powder coated front and rear bumpers with a “rebel” grille. The newer styling is what made me fall in love with the power wagon all over again, so my vote would be an 18 if possible.

And what power wagon are you getting for 47k? If it's a big horn or tradesman, i would pass. If it's a Laramie, like i said, work them a bit more.

that's not a thing anymore. the only two packages are the PW and the Tradesman PW. The old Laramie PW is now a PW with the Leather & Luxury Group.

My local dealer (autonation dodge in phoenix) has a white Laramie power wagon listed for 47,***. I just got ahold of my buddy there and they can do it for mid 45s. I would work for deal on the 18 a bit more.

The link posted isn’t the Laramie but if you want to pass my email to your friend who’s a dealer I’m in the Palm Springs area and will travel for a deal.

I would do the 16 or 18. I assume you are financing, so with that in mind see what the rates are for new vs used. that could make the payments very close which then just go for the 18
