I’m new to the forum and have a question about my 2016 PW. I’m new to Ram trucks so bare with me....

So when I have a trailer on and start from a dead stop with moderate gas given I get a growel type of noise and can feel it thru the gas pedal. But that’s the only time it does it.

I took it the dealer and they had to contact an engineer from Chrysler or so they said they did. Final explanation to me was that it was the cylinder shut down and nothing to worry about.

It doesn’t make sense to me that it would do that from a dead stop with a trailer. Would the shut down disengage as soon as u give it gas?

Anyone else have this happen when towing?

A growl, like exhaust or drivetrain growl. Is it there without the trailer?

Hard to tell where it’s coming from. Front area engine tranny area but could be exhaust near there as well...

Not there without the trailer. The only time I can get it to do it is with a trailer on

I kinda feel like I’m getting blown off by the dealership since it’s not an obvious problem. I would like to get it fixed since I’m getting close to being done my factory warranty even though I have extended warranty

I read that if u put in manual that the cylinder shut down is disabled. I tried in in manual and it seemed to disable it. So today while I had a trailer on I tried that and it still made the noise. It’s like a rubbing slipping noise, metal or something. Could it be a torque converter issue?

Hi harv3589,

If you would like to send us a PM with your VIN I'd be happy to look into this further for you.

Could be just about anything, in my towing experience, any time I've had a noise like you describe, it seemed to be a slight amount of play in the receiver, or sometimes the "hill start assist".

Hope you get this resolved!

It’s definitely not the receiver it’s comin from the front part of the truck and I shut the hill assist off when I bought the truck and double checked it’s still off.

It gets louder with a heavier trailer I noticed as well...

Dealer is going to call Chrysler engineering department today and hopefully they can figure it out. Shop foreman said they are stumped by it as well.

Use tow mode. It disables the cylinder shutdown from what I've read. If it still happens i suspect it's a drivetrain issue

if you can feel it in the pedal I would think it was the torque converter, makes sense if it only happens when youre towing and have tow/haul mode on

If the cylinder shut down is disabled in manual and it's still doing it then I'd take that back to the dealer because it proves they are wrong and need to try again. Or try another dealer if you can.
