Any tips for which OBD reader to purchase? There are so many choices out there to choose from. I don't want to make a bad purchase, but at the same time I don't want to spend an arm and leg! Thanks!

If you own an android phone the best thing to do is buy an obd II Bluetooth plug and download an app called torque. The paid version is worth it and $25 is a lot cheaper than buying a regular obdII code reader.

You should be able to do the key trick and pull your codes without a code reader.

+1 for the Bluetooth OBDII dongle and Torque. You can do a lot with that app, including realtime info with custom gauges.

If you look on Amazon you can find it for around 15-20 with free 2 day shipping via prime.

Torque is a great app to have but i had severe lag times when attempting to read codes with it. Have a cheap dongle so that could be the reason. Had not had a code for a while but i will prob' resort to my faithful SC3815 to read.

I got mine off ebay for like $60. It also does live data. I can also use my superchips programmer. The Bluetooth would be cool, but I have an Iphone

The use to key trick turn your key from the 'off' position to the 'on' position without starting your truck 3 times. Watch your odometer and if there are no codes it will say done then show "---------". if there are codes it will out put them instead of the ------ i believe.

For an OBDII reader I use and ultragauge. UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool

Can read codes, reset check engine, and give live output data. For the price i can't complain about anything on it.

If you have a programmer then you don't need one. If not then buy a programmer (kill 2 birds with one stone).
