I usually ran the fronts around 60 and the backs 68 much less than that on cooler mornings the tpms goes off. I got 38000 on mine probably could have gone another 4000 but they sucked in the snow so replaced them before we get any.

You're asking about pressure when empty, right? Tell us little more about your truck. Cab & bed size? That size is 285/60/20, correct?

I run my 275/70/18s at 70psi. I've had the truck almost a year (Dec 3rd) and have about 20k on it.

I have 25,000 on mine now & should be able to get another 10-15,000 before I purchase new ones. I run mine at about 55-60lbs. A lot of it has to do with your driving style as well. With the limited slip rear end & a heavy foot you are going to wear them out much quicker.

Are you driving a 2500? I set my new factory tires Firestone transforce AT's 275/70-18 at 70 psi F&R. Now that its cooler, they set off the tpms every morning in the rear at 65, before they warm up. 7K mile's so far no concerns about wear.

I've run 55 PSI front 45 PSI rear since new on my Transforce HT tires and just dealt with the TPMS light for rear tires. I have 31,*** miles. Have done two rotations, no balancing. Even wear on all 4. Looks like an can get at least another 20k more out of them.

IMO, its no wonder people complain about poor weather traction and low tire life with 80 psi spec'd for the rear. The outside treads are literally not touching the road when empty at that, or near that pressure. At my pressure, no complaints at all about rain/snow traction.

Oh, and the ride is sooo much nicer at my realistic pressures.

Megacabguy in Austin (cumminsforum) reset my TPMS thresholds to 50 front 40 rear a few weeks ago so no more light :happy107:

Did you notice any MPG drop?

I reduced the pressures before I drove it off the lot. :roflsquared:

When I took it for the test drive, it was at 60/80, just me and the salesman aboard. The ride we took nearly beat us to death! lol

I wonder how many sales Ram loses because of this stupid 2500 tire spec (tires are able to carry 13k+ pounds at those pressures, GVWR is 10k...)

Are you listening FCA???

Anyway, to answer your question, towing 8k pounds I average 10-12 MPG (though I bump rears up to 55PSI, still well covering load capacity)

Empty, I average 14-15 around town and have seen up to 19 on the highway. I have a light foot and rarely need to press the accelerator past halfway -thats keeping up with traffic too.

No problem, these 7k pound pigs are less sensitive to tire pressure changes when it comes to MPG IMO. Much less difference than say a compact car would see.

You are going to love how your truck rides once you lower your tires! :happy107:

Went 4 wheeling Sunday up Schnebly Hill rd near Sedona AZ with 65psi, 11 miles of hard rock, uphill 10"-12" ruts, loose basketball sized boulders. 1-3 mph, beat the crap out of our guts. Still had fun. Didnt have a compressor to air up with, so I went with what I had. No dents, did touch the skid plate once.

I'll start by saying your best bet to do a tire chalk test. There's a couple good Youtube videos if you don't know how.

Ok, here's some approximate numbers. According to page 3 of the 2017_ram_2500_towing_chart you truck's base weight is 4000lbs. in the front and 3000lbs in the rear.

Firestone doesn't publish a Load Inflation Table so we'll use the one from Toyo to get close. Your size is on page 24 ... LT285/60R20 ####=load capacity per tire, (XX)=psi - 2020(35) 2220(40) 2410(45) 2600(50) 2775(55) 2950(60) 3085(65) 3285(70) 3445(75) 3640(80).

So at the recommended 60psi for the fronts your tires have the capacity to carry 2950 x 2 = 5900lbs but the front of your truck only weighs 4000lbs. Even at a 20% margin of error a psi of 45 = 4810lbs (2410x2). Simply apply the same math for the rears.

IF it was my truck I'd run 50 front & 40 rear. In fact, that's what I run with my Cooper A/T3's with great results.

And IF you don't like the annoying lights and warnings, I can help take care of that. Shoot me a PM for details.

With the cold weather I have been running 60 front and 50 rear day to day. In the summer I ran the same as HvyDuty (5 less in each tire). KO2 in 35x12.50 R17. Ride is much better. Cant put any more than 65 in these tires any way.
