So, I've finally talked my step-dad into getting an intake and an exhaust. We have to keep the DPF as to not void the warranty on the truck, but I'm thinking we remove everything else behind the DPF and straight pipe it with a 6" tip. Also, looking into an AFE Intake, most likely this one: AFE Pro Dry S Stage 2 Type XP Intake System 51-31342-1

Now, for the exhaust, what should I be looking to get? What can I do without voiding the warranty?

You could throw in a muffler delete pipe in although with the filters still there it will hardly do anything. The stock exhaust is 4" so there really isn't much sense in changing anything, especially with the dpf present
I'm pretty sure most of the tuners on the market leave a footprint anymore so if you want to keep the wmfull warranty that's out as well

So putting in a delete pipe with a 6" tip wouldn't change anything? The sound or performance (MPGs wise)?

Not really... I can see of... Being a DPF is going to act like a restriction still and like a muffler. Not to mention I'm pretty sure 4" pipe is already on the truck so upgrading the exhaust really isn't needed yet. Atleast in my eyes.

Intake now is a different animal from what I understand... Common rail intakes are rather choked...

Okay. So basically, until we can remove the DPF, no exhaust modifications. What about any other performance upgrades? Anything to get better MPGs?

Also, does that intake seem good? Not sure how to tell.

Damn. Figured as much. An intake will be done then. I'll see what that does, and go from there on what we can do.

MPG and Performance is all going to rely on getting a programmer or a enhancement box. The problem with all the stock electronic trucks is the software is written to meet EPA/CARB but careless about MPG. Like I heard from down the pipe if your get a EFI Live and shut off the pre-injection event you'll gain more MPG's and sound just like a older 24V Cummins.

But time your warranty runs out your stuck for the time being. Because any mod you put on the truck can and will be used/blamed to void the warranty. Just the way Dodge works...

5 years of pure hell waiting for the warranty to run out... Like myself at 50K miles I said "I'm going to be come my own warranty station!" So I did instead of buying more crappy lift pumps and such I start buying real parts that last!

So, does he have to wait for all for the warranties to run out, or just the basic warranty?

Hi folks. Warranty issues aside.....can I install a turbo-back system with bungs and sensors and not need a programmer? If a programmer is needed, is that just to keep from setting a code or is it to prevent engine damage? The truck is a 2010 6.7.

Last time I did this I had a 2007 5.9. It was a piece of cake.

Thanks!
Kevin

I like the S&B intakes. I like the extra protection of the filter thus protecting the turbo in my eyes. I have one for my 06 and love it. Very well built kit.

This is the reason I dont buy warrantied trucks. Every part you add depending on the dealer will void everything. Ive heard stories about someone just adding a CAI and then not having the rear axle gears explode. Dealer would not cover because the intake "added extra hp that the axle was not made to handle". Some dealers are worse then others. Sadly only the dealer that will be covering any work under warranty can tell you what they will and will not cover. sorry bud not a good place to be, stuck with that DPF crap.

Just be careful with your EGT's the DPF makes the temperature sky rocket.
Get a gauge to watch them or a tuner so you can keep your eye on the temp.

Smarty Jr. doesn't but I'm not sure if they even have one for anything that new

on the new trucks everything leaves a print. Look into an efan that may not effect coverage and will increase mpg(at least for me it did).
