Someone suggested that I should remove the overload springs and it'll give a little more drop. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't?

And I don't pull anything and hardly have anything in the bed ever.

That's the only reason you wouldn't want to lol. It'll lower the weight you can tow/haul and might make the rear ride a little stiffer

You won't even notice the difference in the weight handling. It's just for if you "overload" your truck. I don't see that happening to anyone unless you haul a dinosaur or perhaps a elephant in the bed. I vote do it!

I thought taking out a leaf would make the ride less stiff? Or is it cause its the overload leaf?

I don't know much about lowering, but sounds like the overload springs are just for that, if you haul heavy stuff. I think you'd be ok removing them.

I would not recommend doing it as you will experience a ride difference .

The overload spring not only serves as a "overload" but keeps spring tension .

Without it the truck will bounce on every bump ..

Ever seen a lowered style low rider going down the road ... how it bounces like crazy ?
Same thing

Haven't done it yet lol

The rear rides really stiff though, you can feel every bump. I think if it bounces more then it'll ride a little better... plus the extra 1/2" or so drop would look good to :)

Isnt it just a bolt holding them together right through the middle and connected to the axle?
Why not just take a regular leaf out? That way you still have the overload and drops the same amount.

Because the overload is the only one not connected at the front or back. All the others are. So would I have to drop the axle?

The spring is a "spring pack " so NO , you can not break them . Only option is the overload

Better question... what all would I have to do to remove the overload spring and then get it put back together?

When I did mine, I took the entire spring pack and overload spring apart, then put them back together with a stronger bolt from the hardware store and the spring pack bands. Don't recommend doing it that way, cause it's a son of a B to put back together, and granted mine was a 3rd gen so it might be a little different... but it worked. :Grenade:

Could I just unbolt the belt clamp and slide the overload spring out?
