I've got a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Express with a 5.7 Hemi. About a week ago I got an engine code P0308-missfire on #8 cyl along with a P2323 code which has to do with low coil voltage. The truck throws a check engine light and I get a dead miss on #8. When it first started, I could shut the engine down and restart and the miss would be gone for a while--maybe an hour, maybe a day--but it would come back. Now when it sets code, the miss stays. On a cold start, the truck runs fine for about 20 miles, then it throws the 2 codes and I get a miss on #8. I live quite a ways from my dealer, so they recommended that I have my guy replace the coil and plugs on that cylinder. No joy-same thing happens. I took it in to the dealer. They checked the coil and wiring for continuity and resistance and then swapped holes with the coil--still sets code for #8. Then he replaced the PCM. Still does it. The mech pulled the valve cover and motored the engine over while he watched to see that the cam was lifting the valves. He noticed nothing unusual. There is much head scratching going on by all involved and he has a call in to the engineers at Chrysler to see if they've seen it. Any of you folks seen it?

Hope it's fixed now. Chrysler had them open up the wiring harness and install a jumper wire as a go-around on the coil circuit. I watched the mechanic ohm the original wire from the PCM to the coil and it tested good--but the problem was intermittent. Anyways, I could care less if he used a coat hanger and duct tape as long as it works. We'll see....

Hi Paperman3650,

I've been having similar issues and was wondering if this solved the problem with your Ram.

I have a 2014 (30,000 miles) 5.7 Hemi with a P2323 code and U0140 code. The problem started with a intermittent hesitation. I took it for service to a Ram dealer when the engine light came on and it hesitated constantly and shook the entire vehicle. The dealer replaced the #8 cylinder coil pack. The day after I picked it up the problem started again. Intermittent again. It went back to the dealer when the light came on (as of this post it has been there for 4 days). They are "testing" the truck. Very very frustrating. Does anyone know if this may become a recall or how to initiate feedback to FCA?

Has anyone bothered to change a plug and or the plug wire. Sure sounds like a wire issue. Usually when spark plug wires heat up they’d will show their faults.

This is the exact problem I am having as of Sunday morning...
I replaced the coil on cylinder#8 today (rear most cylinder on the passenger side), and it helped for about 5 minutes and then went back to running like crap again (obviously 1 cylinder not firing regulary).
when the engine it cold it runs good for about 10-15 minutes, then misses again...
Same codes today along with U0140...
Help....

Hi 50BMG,
We're very sorry to hear about your truck not running properly. If you feel this is something you would like your dealership to look into, you can send us a private message and we'd be happy to help you get an appointment set up as well as help address any of your questions or concerns while your truck is being serviced.

Hi Lydia,
Thank you for the response. Yes, I would like to discuss getting a dealer looking at it.
If you mean start a "Conversation" instead of a "Private Message", I thought I sent one out yesterday morning (I guess they call PM's "conversations" now???).

I'll do it again...

camshaft and lifter replacement incoming... :banghead:

NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo!
:puke:

Honestly, even today, nearly a full week after the problem first appeared, it is still "intermittent".
When I first start the truck, if runs perfectly until everything gets up to running temp. Then it will begin to miss, but even then, there are times in between the missing when everything will all of a sudden run just fine for a short period.

If it was a valve spring, lifters or excessive cam wear/valve lash because of the bad lifter, I would think there would never be pockets of hope, no?

I'm gonna try a set of plugs in cylinder #8 this evening (if it doesn't pour rain like it looks like it might).
Just to be sure, Bank#1 (drivers side) is cylinders # 1,3,5,7 (front to back)?
Bank#2 (passengers side) is # 2,4,6,8 (also front to back)?
Right?

I just saw an image of the layout the other day but I forget where. As far as I know, from a small amount of experience and hearing other stories, it is something that worsens over time if it is actually the cam/lifter(s). Basically whichever cylinder that is misfiring, that lifter is ******* up and starts beating the cam up. So it seems to get worse over time. When i test drove my truck home, it was hesitating and sputtering whenever I put it under load, I was very sad :( mine was cylinder 3 and the dealer agreed to repair it in order to get the sale ($3,900 plus a broken manifold bolt or two) so while I fear it may happen again someday. I hope it does not... It is certainly covered under power train warranty.

Hi Jim,
First, did you pull the plugs of that cylinder to see if they looked super-fouled or if there was evidence of the cam/lifter of that cylinder going bad?
Mine showed no evidence of camshaft failure on the #8 plugs (in fact they looked downright good considering the mileage on them) and it ended up being a wire within the harness I think. I believe they bypassed it to make everything good.
FCA had a special technician available for the local dealer-tech to confer with (although this particular dealer is only about 3 miles from FCA HQ as well).
Cost me @$500 to get it fixed, but the truck ran like a ***** ape after that.

If you've taken a look at the sheer number of wires in that bundle out of the ECU, you'll know you have to have somebody who knows what they are doing/with the right experience, if yours is the same exact cause as mine...
Find a dealer you trust and then ask them who they would trust to get it fixed!

Add me to the list on this thread. Only I have a 2004 1500 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi. Exact issues but I only got the P2323 code. I tried all the same things everyone has tried, just haven't gone to the dealer yet, hopping to take care of this myself. S if anyone comes up with a cure. let's hear it.
Thanks

The mechanic said the plugs looked good, first he said it was bad gas then he wanted to replace the PCM which he did 1500$ later and the check engine light cam on within 10 mile of driving, I asked for him to look at the wiring again. this is very frustrating.
