i guess my grandpa is lucky that it didn't really become a bigger issue until he was in his 70's.

It is truly horrible when one loses the ability to take care of himself. I never will stand to be a burden to others and have no dignity.

look good. i wish i had enough money to replace my entire front end on my 93 to get it aligned. i just had to replace the control arm bushings on the one side and need to do the other side before i can get an alignment. i got some camber issues and toe out issues currently

It isn't too bad if you source your parts from anywhere other than the dealership. They seriously put the hurt on me.. for the ball joint and UCA.

ya i would most likely get most of the parts i need from rockauto. it is just a lot of money to spend on the front end at once.

I hear you, I just did 03's complete front end. It sort of sneaks up on you and is not high visibility. I didn't expect problems with the 89' but it is a wild card until I drive it more and know a little more about it. It does drives very nice, hell it drove good even before I did the work. lol...

the 2wd front ends are pretty tough. i would settle for having my camber and toe set right but i know no one would touch my front end without new tie rods and upper control arm bolts on both sides.

i have heard you can let the steering on these things get extremely sloppy and still drive just fine.

I don't know, I drove three before buying Farmtruck and they were pretty sloppy and in my consideration not really safe to drive. They were very sensitive to road crown and basically ran from side to side. Farmtruck was pretty tight, but I think what made her feel good was the alignment was still pretty close even with the bad upper joint. Shocks, bushing and everything has now been checked and or replaced so I think she'll last a good while.. hopefully...

with the way the steering is on these trucks i would still trust a truck with sloppy steering. most of the time most of the slop is only in the box which you can adjust but the way the tie rods sit i would not worry about them falling out or anything like that even if they were sloppy. they sit on top instead of under so they won't drops when they get looses.

Having the destroyed upper ball joint I took that into account as I drove around when I was thinking the truck shouldn't have been on the road at all. Who ever did the welding did do a complete job of it. Actually managed to weld completely around the whole joint completely destroying whatever was inside holding the ball. from the excessive heat

at least there is really not too much pressure on the upper control up. that is probably why it didn't come apart.

True and with the lower being tight made it feel relatively tight.

The ball joint mounting hole was egg shape from the pin wiggling around in it. The knuckle is junk and I threw it in the metal bend....

Edit: Job successfully completed. Very happy with the out come...

On eBay "Partsitout" (Larry) is a great seller, fast and sells at good prices. Turned out he drives a 93.
