You really need something thin and strong to open it without leaving a trace.

The other side of my tool was too thick to get in there without using force (and leaving mark on the plastic). Here it is for reference

Hope this will help someone else

Go to the auto parts store and buy a set of plastic auto trim removal tools. Completely worth the $15 they typically cost. Metal tools will always leave marks on plastic.

In your kit there's a trim thin/strong enough to fit in the small gap?

No problem. You can actually be a bit more forceful with tools like these too without worrying about damaging trim pieces.

These tools are a must have for anyone who likes to tinker on their automobile...

Bringing this one back to life. They pulled my dash for the abs recall and now the dash rubs up against the passenger A Pillar and the noise is driving me insane. Going to pop the pillar and put some insulation in there to mitigate the sound. Anything I need to watch out for when removing?
