I was looking into getting a DA and I saw chemical guys has a pretty good Porter 7424 kit deal. Was wondering how many of you guys were using one and how the smaller throw was on getting the job done? I was looking into larger throw models/brands but I don't think spending the coin on something I may only use 1/2 times a year is worth it. Thoughts? Opinions?

Just bought one during the chemical guys 25% off sale. It works great! Plus the combo pads and cleaner works amazing!

7424 was my first DA polisher. Works very well for what it is.

BUT I later upgraded to the Harbor Freight DA (yes, I said upgraded). Feels much more powerful, corrects faster and with a simple mod (tear it down and re-grease the gearbox) its as smooth as the PC. After 20% coupon I was about 58 bux.

i have one and it works well. You will feel it in your hands from the vibration after doing a whole full size truck though

The RA is better, IMO. I have a small Griots version, but given the size of this truck, I could really use a much larger pad size. O

DA or RO- personal preference. I have both, but switched back to the RO I have with much better pads than I had before.

DA just spins in a circle, the RO- random orbit, spins in many concentric circles.

I started with a 7424 and it was a solid unit. I ended up selling it and going with a Cyclo polisher. It's a dual 4" pad polisher and looks like a hair dryer out of 1930 but it has a lot less vibration compared to the 7424 and the dual 4" pads give it a 4"x8" path that makes large panels a lot faster to tackle but you can run it in the 4" direction for A-pillars. It's just as safe for a first timer as the 7424 and standard 4" pads are used so nothing special. I use Adams pads but the 4" hexlogic pads are my next favorite.

I’ve got one poster cable DA polisher and I love it. It does a great job.

X2 on the griots... you don't grow out of it, you grow into it. Have both the 3" and 6"

If you can't dodge it... RAM it!

Just make sure it is a dual random orbital polisher. From Auto Geeks you can get the HD one with the longer cord which I would recommend.

It's a good tool, I just wish it could spin a bit faster.

We all started with the PC, it will get the job done but like mentioned it not real comfortable to use.
We sell them for around $149, In my opinion our Swirl Killer 15 LT corrects a lot faster and is way more easier on your hands. You can check it out.......and it's on sale now.

Agreed. I went from PC to the Swirlkiller 15 Long throw. It’s like going from a Volkswagen Beetle to a Porsche 911 Turbo. Smooth, fast, powerful. It uses the same pads, takes less time, and has a 25 ft. Cord and a slow start. Perfect. I have the Mini 12mm too.
