I've been researching a little bit but not enough. I've been looking for a programmer for my dad's Mega. It has the 5.9 Cummins. It's doing pretty good on fuel. We avg. about 20 on the way back today with the wind at our back. Wanting to get better though and I know they can do it so what's the best programmer for that? I'm thinking Edge Juice w/ Attitude. What do you all think?

Well I will move this to the CTD section where you will get better answers .
Imo and I have a few buddies with the same rig and they will not buy anything but a bully dog for a diesel ... period .

Smarty is the best for the 5.9. I dont personally have experience with it, but most of the 5.9 guys swear by smarty (just like us hemi guys go with DSP or SC).

Keep in mind whats good for one diesel may not be good for another manufacturers diesel. So you really wanna hear what works good specifically for the CTD 5.9

Smarty is amazing. But no display. You would have to gauges.you can go with the edge juice with attitude. Color screen and pretty slick. Quadzilla adrenaline is good. Can do custom tuneing were edge cant. nice thing with quad is if u have a iphone or I touch u can sync with bluetooth and have gauges and all on them. There is bullydogs stuff. Then banks(shakes head) sry just a lil late on post

Buddy of mine has smarty, brother uses a H&S Black Max, we just put a mini max in my dad's truck. So far the H&S is really easy and good support.

Banks ottomind tuner with stinger plus package, mechanical gauges, plus a fuelpressure gauge. no adjustments accept your right foot. i have had it for 5 years no problems. i did not want a computer screen to deal with. it added a decent amount of power and i have been happy with it. did not know alot about any of them when i bought it. it was a complete package and very easy to buy. whatever you use junk the factory fuel system. none of them warned much about that when i bought mine.

I swear by Smarty. Best for the Cummins. If your short on cash, get the Smarty Jr and the Bully Dog Watch Dog. I haven't gauged up yet, but the Watch Dog is next.

My belief is if you can adjust on the run, there's the chance of screwing it up and costing a lot. Why would you need to change settings that fast and that often ?

True ... why would anyone need to adjust on the fly .

Like out here you up and down elevation and up into snow and down out of snow. So with a programmer you would stop and pull over to reprogram the ECM. Where with like my Edge Comp I just push a button on the fly to defuel the setting to allow me to get traction on icy roads.

Like my buddy with his tuned up 92 Cummins is going to to learn about this in the coming winter... I driven that truck before and it builds torque so fast its just plain scary on ice. The truck just starts going sideways on you. So the previous owner would park it for the winter instead of detuning the VE pump...

Eh Smarty on the CP3 pumped trucks is nice because it can add up to like 175hp, on the VP trucks it only adds 65hp. XZT+ will ad 65+ and 200ftlb of torque.
