I currently have a '12 1500 with the 5.7 with HF tunes...I'm playing with the idea of getting a' 17 PW with the 6.4. I was wondering if tuning is available for the newer 6.4's to make it quick?

Yes, there is programming available.

You'll need a programmer (Diablosport I3), an unlocked PCM (your OEM one is encrypted) and I'd highly recommend a custom tune.

You can get a package from Matt at Moe's Performance or from Sean at Hemifever Tuning. You can use your OEM PCM as a trade in on the unlocked PCM or keep it to swap back into service for those visits to the dealer.

Ok, great. Thanks for the reply. I bought my diablo tuner from Moe's with the HF tuning and have been very happy with it... I'm glad to know that the 6.4's can be tuned, makes me want a PW even more!

What kinda $$$ would that be?

Looking at Moe's website, it appears to be about $900.

Just a thought that you might want to purchase a PCM and keep yours for when you go in for service.

Would an unlocked PCM cause warranty issues?

In a word, yes. And since the PCM is the powertrain control module, the dealer could deny any powertrain component warranty.

It's not right to do so but to get anywhere you'd have to fight it under the Magnuson - Moss Warranty Act.

Which is why it was recommended to keep your OEM PCM and use it as needed.

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it. Guess I'll be planning on keeping the stock PCM if I make the jump.

Has anyone actually put their truck on a dyno? Just wondering what real numbers are.

I'm willing to bet that even with putting the stock PCM back on before taking it to a dealer, if they dig deep enough they will figure out you switched them at some point.

Perhaps someone who works at a dealership could confirm that

The truck stores a code if you pull the ABS fuse and put it back. I think it’s a safe bet that it stores a code if the PCM gets swapped.

Is the code stored on the PCM or elsewhere?

Ha half the dealers can’t change oil or do simple service correct. Doubt they’d spend too much time for a repair just to see if pcm was swapped.
