i have the stock cd player (non mp3) with kenwood excelon door speakers, 2 12" 500w powerbass subs hooked up to a 500w rockford fosgate amp.

2 problems:

1) while im charging my phone in the truck i get almost no radio reception.
and is there such thing as an AM booster? i like talk radio.

2) while my subs are on, the lights dim something terrible! ive had bigger systems before and in my 02 i had the same setup as i do now and also had another sub and amp. is there something to stop this? its terrible at night

any help is appreciated

you have two 12 inch subs pushing 500 rms each or combined rms? cuz if it's 500 rms each your amp is not powerful enough and may burn out

ive had this amp on these subs for over a year. never had any problems.. kept the battery out of my old truck as it was almost new when i got my 06.. didnt have the dimming problem in my 2002.

nick: i got the amp from craigslist and the subs from a local shop and the kenwoods from a buddy.

jeremy: i never heard of replacing these wires.. ill check into it

any car stereo place sells capacitors, they store power for when your subs hit it will help compensate for the high amp draw for that few seconds then recharge itself. depending on the amp and speakers they should recomend you the right size capacitor.. (1/2 farad, 1 farad.....and so on) "fair-id" is how its said!

I've used one of these before in my camaro and it didn't seem to make a difference

Nim I too love am talk, and my radio fades in and out. It gotta be a **** poor oem radio. Plain and simple I would replace but most after market radio's suck when it comes to am. Ya could blow 20.00 bucks a month on sat. but I'm not in the truck long enough too enjoy it. But I do want to replace the oem speakers. Do you remember which was pos or neg,?? Thats the only thing I'm waiitng on.

Thanks Bryan, Should be tackling this near the end of August. I have an E-cut out on the way first. Should be here on Monday. The speakers are gonna be a birthday present to me. :)
