So I need some help. I have a 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi with an 8 speed transmission. I'm on vacation and wanted to check my transmission fluid nut cannot find the dipstick. I was reading some trucks do not have them. Can anyone clarify?

You can't check the trans fluid level on the 8 speed

You have to remove a plug on the side of the tranny.

I've got a 2016 5.7 Hemi with the 8 speed trans and I thought that I saw a dip stick for it in the passenger side of the engine.

Not crazy about that either. My old 2007 Ford Sport Trac had the same thing

Yes, no dipstick. Was told by dealer no service needed for life of truck. If leak detected or problem develops dealer will check.

If you check the maintenance schedule in the owners manual though you'll find that "lifetime" = 100,000 miles, at which point its supposed to be changed. :)

Does it take a special tool. I saw on youtube a guy was filling it until it just drips out slowly out of the fill hole. True?

Not so much a special tool but a special procedure. You're transmission has to be a specific temperature before you check if it runs out the hole or not.

I have an 09 Durango 5.7 Hybrid. Not only no dipstick, trans is non-serviceable. $15,000 to replace. That was a big ouch!
