I am looking at buying the amerihood ssk ram air hood for my 17 ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi
The hood requires a cold air intake and says it will be compatible with the
K&N or an air raid but from all I have read the S&B is a better system
I contacted amerihood and S&B but haven't heard back yet

My question is
Are they all very similar on mounting and where the box sits in the engine bay
Has anyone had the different brands that can say if they mount pretty much the same
I really want this hood and the S&B but I also want to to function correctly

https://amerihood.com/dodge-ram-2500-2010-2017-ssk-style-functional-heat-extractor-ram-air-hood.html
Here is the hood I am looking at

Also if I buy this stuff and put it on my truck will I have to have it tuned
Or will the computer keep it running right
I will eventually tune it but not right now
future plans include a tune and possibly a true dual exhaust
Any info would be great
Thanks
Mike

The only advantage the S&B has over the Air Raid is the fact it's a sealed box with a top,and doesn't require a rubber sealing ring that contacts the hood, other then that, they're very similar. In your case where the hood seals to the airbox, the Air Raid is actually going to be the better airbox.I wouldn't worry about getting the S&B if you're buying the hood,as the Air Raid box with it's totally open top,is going to allow more air in then the S&B airbox would. You should be okay with the stock tune, but be forewarned you're spending a pile of money just to generate more noise,as I highly doubt you're going to gain a hell'va lot of power from the hood and cold air kit.So don't be overly disappointed if it doesn't turn your truck into a tire boiling monster, lol.

Thank you wild one
Not really going for tire boiling
I have just heard a lot of good about the amerihood and since it's fully functional and it will not work with factory air box
I just questioned which box would be best
I love look of the hood I would get it if it weren't functional
But since it is I might as well make the best of it
I am loving the truck
Just adding a few things to make it my own
Thanks again for the reply

So only 3 companies make cai”s for our trucks
Afe
S&b
K&N
The K&N comes ready to seal to the hood.
So I’m my opinion it is your best bet. Just get a better dry filter. Afe and S&b both make filters that will fit in and on the K&N set up and bag the filter to wick water away and help the filter last longer. Remember the charge pipe for the 5.7 and the 6.4 are different so the kits are different. One will not work with the other due to the throttle body angle.

Also this is an option

It looks like this keeps the factory air box in tact
Cool mod for sure
But with the hood I am looking at it requires a cai cause the lid from the factory air box has to be removed
And the hood seals to the new air box
Thanks for the reply on the different cai for our trucks

The S&B does require some extra install time and honestly its a bit of a pain...but its worth it.

You have to take off the entire passenger side wheel well insert to get at the bolts that hold the stock intake in.

I will say though...there is a YouTube video that is simple step by step...I followed it exactly and had no issues. Just takes about an hour or so. The intake itself looks great...and is very solidly attached.

Ya I understand the factory wouldn’t work with what you are trying to do, was just saying you could do that with the K&N and the aftermarket hood as well.

I’ve looked at that hood and doing this exact set up you want to do, along with Fiberglass front fenders. Was basically a wish list lol

Gotcha
Fenders would be a sweet setup also
But I don't know if that would be in my budget at the moment lol
I wasn't planning on the cai yet but since it's a must have for this hood
I guess I'll get it
Been saving for the hood for a bit
But also while it is in paint
I want to paint match my bumpers and grill
My grill is chrome so I'm hoping I don't have to buy another one
Body shop here says he don't like painting chrome
Unless I get it media blasted or something will look into that soon
We will see where I end up I guess lol
Thank you for the input
Appreciated
Mike

Awesome thank you all for the replies
S&B said it would prolly take some trimming and leaving the lid off and prolly still wouldn't seal
Well more then likely go with
K&N or air raid
Any opinions on these which would be better

Stay away from K&N, it's not a true sealed box, but rather a partion and sucks hot air in from around it.

Ok so just got an email from
S&B and amerihood
As long as the air box sits where the factory box sits the hood should work
I am gonna order the cai soon and hopefully the hood not far from now
Talked to a body shop to have it all painted and installed at one time and place
Gonna be awhile yet but I'll post it up when it's done
Thanks y'all for your inputs
Mike

Oh man that looks sweet as hell
Is that a 2500 truck?
I'm hoping mine looks that good when done
Did you notice any performance change or mileage or anything
Or did you do it for looks
I am hoping when I am ready to order I can get it cheaper on Amazon or something like that
They have free shipping on some stuff

That looks great

Just curious was the fit good
Did it let much water/dust into engine bay
Thanks

It’s a 1500. I did it for looks No mileage change but I think def some extra pull on highway with almost a forced air with the scoop going right to vararam . Love the look I’m happy with it sure!
