Ive been wondering if you really over geared one, how it would effect the mpg and drive ability. say 4.88s with 35s or 4.56s with stockers. If you could get the RPM up and take some of the load off the motor, it seems the MDS would have an easier time running and therefore net you higher mpg?

I could tell a difference between the two at highway speeds, around town not really. it wasnt OMG, but if you add heavier tires the difference becomes more noticeable. Thats all i was really trying to say. The mpg seems to be the same, if not favoring the 4.10 crowd from what ive seen.

the 410:s definitely favor the fuel mileage unless someone is in a flat low elevation state. And I too think that with a gear of 456 the mds would activate a lot more and would net better fuel economy. City driving is what it is.. it won't get any better lol.. but for every day " typical" driving on the hwy, I think a gear change would work wonders. Karl chime in you have 456"s- Twilliams does to, but he's got 6 inches of lift.

Meh, 3.73s and 4.10s both suck, 3.42's is the gear to have. :naughty:

Ha!! If I had a diesel " dream truck" intake/ exhaust/ fuller deleted and tuned with 321"s .. Cause with 1000ftTq that ***** would get awesome hwy mileage and pull anything.

The last I saw on fuelly, TWilliams was averaging about 10-11. Not that impressive to me though, I was getting 11-12 (staying under 62mph lol) in my 6.0 HD on 37s 4.88s. Maybe he drives 70 and still gets 10-11? That would be nice. The HD, LOL @ trying to run 70.

I had to order mine specifically to get the 4.10s. The dealers didn't have and couldn't find a 6.4 with 4.10s in the western US, and I tried Dave Smith, Dennis Dillon and Lithia. It was worth it, I got exaclty what I wanted.

You will NOT find a dealer with that truck on the lot, UNLESS you go with a Power Wagon, they have the 4.10 ratio only!!

I would not lower the gear to get mileage! Ask the guys who bought the Power Wagons with 4.56 gears and 33" tires. They SUCKED fuel. If you want tall tires 35" or higher, and have no budget then swap to 4.56. I have a 2015 6.4 hemi with the 3.73's. I get 18 on the highway, that is climbing the Gauntlet I-70 Utah to Denver. Empty of course. I have noticed a problem with my cruise, it takes 5 mph drop at 80 to do anything.
Then it jumps into 4th and gets the speed back to 80. It does this over and over. I tool it in and the dealer told me Sorry nothing we can do. I tried manually gearing down, and it is a lot better. Butt I didn't pay all this money to manually shift a 6 speed automatic in new FNN truck!!

that doesn't make sense.. if it down shifts to 4th it should either hold 4th or get into 5th... it should go back into 6th just to slow down again. They shouldn't hunt gears like that. Mine doesn't.

Nor mine. It does skip down to 4th as its direct deive but when it reaches speed again it levels right out in 6th. Takes a lot to kick it out of 6th too.

having had the 4.56 for over a year and towing about 10k of that, feel that lower is definitely better unless maybe your only driving is at sea level and not towing anything about say 6k for weight. I also have ran empty at about 2000 ft. elevation (eastern SD, and MN, as well as about 10k elevation ( over the mtn.'s. by Denver . Maybe lost 1 to maybe 2 mpg on the flats at lower but stayed the same and probably gained 1 at the higher elevations. Pulling, while I didn't appear to have gained mileage (between 8 and 10), and truly didn't gain like I had hoped, I like the overall effect. The up side to the re gear is that the constant up and down shifts were far less frequent. That said, probably the over all rpm's the engine runs is at least 10% "less" than with the higher gear taking into account the usual and frequent downshifts. Also, as was stated, the MDS is on a lot more of the time. Think over the long haul, the engine will have many less revs on it through out it's lifetime. Also a much nicer power curve I feel. Truth, would like to see someone (who tows heavy) go with a 4.88 gear if it is available. I don't think they would be disappointed.
