Back home for Thanksgiving after camping near Moab. A relatively warm and sunny 13 degrees Fahrenheit day.

I'm considering a travel trailer in the next few months...at what point do I need to consider bars and even air bags and cradle? is it tongue weight? I'm attempting to keep this trailer in the 6-7000lb range (empty weight). I have a 2018 PW. Currently it has stock wheels/tires and suspension!
Thanks!

You really need to know the loaded total and tongue weight. I would recommend a good weight distribution hitch with sway control for starters. The questions on bags or not depends on tongue weight (after WDH added) plus added cargo/ bed weight. If your close or exceeding your payload sticker, get bags. If you haven't already, check out the Trailer/Towing section. Lots of good info in there. https://www.ramforum.com/forums/towing-hauling.119/

I'll check that towing-hauling post out for sure! I've never owned/towed a travel trailer so this could be an entirely new adventure! Just trying to minimize any "surprises". I didn't buy this truck to tow.....but...the wife had other ideas! She looked at it last week and said "Hey! That's a BIG truck! I bet it can tow a lot!" So....there we go.

ALWAYS use a weight distribution hitch with a travel trailer.

I tow a travel trailer with my power wagon. It is 28’ long and 7000 pounds empty. With my weight distribution hitch setup, the truck would sit perfectly level with the trailer. Of course, it really boils down to tongue weight...

Of course, I had to level the truck for when not towing, so I then had to install bags to keep it level when I am towing lol.

For a trailer under 3,500 pounds I use a friction brake bar, but no weight distribution hitch. The nice thing about a shorter 15' (18' 6" total) trailer is that I can get off road with the Power Wagon where few people go to search for fossil and petrified stuff. Can park it in a crowded Moab City Market parking lot in 2 spaces and get out easily. Camp all seasons with it from a low of minus 38 to a high of 118 degrees Fahrenheit.

My biggest issues are ground clearance, tough tires, and the trailer turning radius has to be extremely tight. Ground clearance is limited to the height of the axle on some tough BFG KO2 235 75R15 tires on a 5" lifted trailer. The turning is tight at 180 degrees.

Accidentally jack knifed it 90 degrees in snow today due to it suddenly went sideways while backing it up on some ice. No damage to the trailer or to the truck. Just left some trailer gravel shield dirt/dust marks on the truck bed panel showing that it had lightly contacted.

Man you got extremely lucky. Usually when that happens you wind up with bent bumpers, bed sides, bent trailer a frames, you name it. Glad you had next to no damage

Actually, there's zero damage, like nothing ever happened.

I stopped when I heard the $30 Harbor Freight Haulmaster friction brake bar bind up at its limit for going in. I believe that the brake bar had stopped the trailer from going even tighter into the truck. Good decision to have installed one immediately upon my purchase of the trailer. Saved both the truck and trailer from damage.

By looking at the tracks, looks to me like you just completely forgot the trailer was back there. Thats ok, though, we've all done that before lol. My last incident was with an empty jet ski trailer.... it was in bad shape when I got done with it... lots of welding repairs were needed lol.
