I had a similar issue in an old truck and all I had to do was adjust the steering box. But I'm pretty sure your truck has a rack and pinion. Di you put bigger tires on it or has it just gotten worse over time?

Sounds like a badly worn rack & pinion.

I have a 2007 Ram 1500, I have 2 inches of play in the steering wheel, Check your Coupler. It has a U joint in it where the steering shaft goes down on side of the engine from firewall. All of my steering wheel play is from the U joint pretty much completely failing in it.

Currently trying to figure out how to replace it. All the replacement couplers are 86+ dollars, want to just rebuild it but cant find anyone thats done it on the 3rd gens sadly. Not sure where to start for a rebuild of one.
