So as some of you know I'm moving to VA. I plan on buying another boat and have been looking at the regs. However. There are so many it's hard to understand.
As I read it. I need a fresh water, a salt water, and a license for the boat. Holy crap. Is this correct.

There's also something called a tidal boat license. That I think counts for all the others. But I have no freakn idea

Interested in this also because within the next few years I too will probably be moving to VA.

depends on what & where you are fishing

fresh water if you fish fresh water, salt if you fish salt, and the boat license not sure on unless you are a guide.....my bass boat don't need one

Now, if you mean license as in license plate, then yes, the boat, motor & trailer all have to be registered.
