hey guys I got my truck a couple of years ago with only 40000 miles on it. And I now have 83000 recorded miles on the odometer. should I change my spark plugs soon? I don't know if the previous owner did or not, so for all I know I could be on the stock plugs.

what does everybody recommend as far as plugs for the 4.7l?

They're supposed to be replaced or checked every 30k, so you're actually overdue.

I used the stock spec Champions in my dad's truck last time I did it, still runs fine.

Maybe. We got maybe .2 increase in MPG. When we had a plug actually fail and cause a misfire for about 5k the MPG had dropped 2.

My policy has always been to install a new clear filter on every used vehicle as soon as I get it. Otherwise, I never change them until I suspect they are stopped up. I'm sure there is a suggested life expectancy on every brand of filter

Fuel filters are part of the pump if I remember correctly.

What MPG are you getting now? My dad's truck is an 02 4.7 QCSB 2WD with 265/70 tires and it gets about 15 at 75mph on the hwy.

On an '89 the filter is in the frame under the drivers door between the tank and the engine. On an older truck it may be closer to the mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine or part of it as dodgedude94 said. Assuming it is still in the stock location.

I didn't notice much when I changed mine an I had just a tad less mileage than what you have.

Use the champion plugs that dodge uses. That's all I've ever used in my 07 4.7. Never any problems there, plus they are cheap.

You could have a light misfire going on. You're at 43k since you bought the truck and the plugs should have been changed at 30k by the PO, but there is no telling if that was done or not. Change them with factory spec Champions.

Don't worry, the plugs 7 and 8 are almost as big of a ***** to get to as those on the Hemi.

Things are easier when it's your dad buying the $2 a plug spark plugs and not yourself.

:***:

It was his truck. lol
