Hello All,

Not my first sound system upgrade but first time touching my rams sound system. Its a 14 1500 express CC with Uconnect 5.0 and not the premier sound system.

I had the rear door panel off the other day to try to fix a Ding and pulled the speaker out. The speaker was a 6x9 and judging by the weight and cloth cover I understand why the sound is poor.

I'm thinking of swapping out the door speakers front and back for the moment. Both are 6x9 from what I read but there is a depth issue with the window track right? Ive searched and most kits come with all 6x9 replacements front and rear or do 6x9 rear and 5.25 or 6.5 front with adapters. I dont want to run expensive speakers thinking $40-75 a pair. What is the limits for the front and rear doors depth wise? Are 5.25/6.5 better for the fronts and don't limit the sound? If I have to run shallow 6x9 in the front maybe the 5.25/6.5 is a better choice and will allow more depth?

I'm keeping the stock dash speakers probably but Ive seen kits for $190 with everything and the speaker adapters. From what Ive heard the front and dash are tied together so upgrading the front dash tends to overpower the doors.

Thoughts? Recommendations? Also most speakers are 4ohm and Ive heard the stocks are 2ohm so the 4ohm speakers will be less loud right?

Thanks for the reply!

Those are 2 way but the depth is 2.88" which supposedly is too much for the 2 7/8" front clearance right? or its really really tight. I was looking at kenwood or Kicker but I know JBL is a good brand and usually out of my price range. The specs of those speakers even worth it with the power output of the stock headunit? I would think I would need to run a 1/4" spacer for those speakers to be safe.

I figure a $40-60 2 way speaker has got to be better than the stocker which prob isn't even a 2 way.

Also I cant confirm but Ive heard that 2 way is better for the doors as the stock ram filters the door signal for low/midrange and the dash speakers take care of the highs etc. So putting a 3 or 4 way in the door is pointless.

I think you can fit around 3.25"... I had a 3.75" speaker that has about a half inch too deep. I've installed tons of these on factory HUs from different manufactures and never had a complaint.

I just put in the Kicker 41KSC6934 which have 3-3/16" mounting depth. I needed to use a 1/4 inch MDF spacer on the front side of the speaker, they basically touch the plastic cover on the door panel, but they are a tight fit and have better sound.

The Mopar Kickers are 3.25" and they fit fine. Also 2.88" is the same as 2-7/8". :)

If you have the standard non-Alpine 6 speaker system the fronts are 77KICK28AB. Be advised that the number might be updated to a MOPAR number.

Check prices on Amazon. I also did the rear door speakers, 77KICK41, and it sounds real nice to me.

Well This is what I got!

Kicker 40CS654 6.5 front 2 ways with speaker adapters and plug and play harnesses
Kicker 43DSC69304 6x9 Rears 3 ways with plug and play harnesses. This should clear everything and plug right in.

I just ordered Kicker 43DSC3504 3.5" front dash speakers with plug an play harnesses. But they are 4ohm speakers and I know the stockers are 8ohm. So I'm worried about them being "overpowering" due to half the resistance. I have read about adding an inline resistor 4ohm 10W but not really a fan of the bandaid fix and putting something that gets hot in the dash lol.

I have thought about adding another set of speakers and wiring them in series to get the correct 8ohm impedance and double the sound :) but mounting 3.5 speakers somewhere up front looks near impossible.

Any thoughts on how to lower the impedance to stock 8ohm with a 4 ohm speaker without killing the power to the speaker? lol

Not bad for $170 with free shipping and all the adapters and plug and play harnesses.

I thought our systems stock speakers are 2 ohm?

Front and rear 6x9s are 4 ohm. Dash speakers are 3.5" and 8 ohm.

I think the premium alpine systems are 2 ohm.

43DSC3504 you mean? Did you notice them being overly Loud? compared to stock? Did you install any resistors or bass blockers?

I thought about getting bass blockers but wasn't sure about the hz I would need.

I have the 8.4 alpine premium system they are actually lower volume than stock as stock is 2ohm my kickers are 4ohm I can now run my eq flat on the hi frequencies. because of the lower volume I'm putting the reast of the speakers in soon to balance it out
