JJ - Question: For highbeams, on a lot of vehicles, I've noticed that they put an HID light in a reflector style bowl... Is this better than a projector, does it give a wider, deeper view of light, knowing of course that there's not the restrictive cutoff that makes the projector work so well for low-beams? Are the reflectors in this case the same as halogen, or is there a difference?
I know I'm not JJ. But have had experience with bixenon projectors so will throw in my 2¢.
I would say that most cars just don't install bixenon projectors with their hids. And that the projector puts out a more focused beam and would be brighter them the hid high beam bowl when in hibeam position, which basically just drops the cutoff shield. While with an hid in a reflective bowl, the light would be scattered out and face much more quickly then if being focused through a projector. So you wouldn't get the same amount of range and brightness.
