I'm already 6000 miles in to using Redline 5W30 with a RP 10-48 filter. Things have gotten a little better, but there is still cold start chatter and a warm tick.
I'd be making sure there's no exhaust leak and the manifold Shields are good and tight .
Sometimes it is what it is ...maybe try pyb conventional oil ?

Got my sample back from Blackstone from my 6200 mile cross country trip with my camper in tow. I cannot believe how good this UOA is considering at least 5500 miles of this was towing my camper!fd1823e108049d9bc3339a6dff43e662.jpg

That's a pretty strong TBN at 3.3 imo because I had a 3.3 TBN with Redline 5W-30 with over 8k [emoji1303]

Wow, that's a great UOA. If anyone had any questions about redline right there ought to answer them.

Cory,
Steps up again. First he was the Guinea pig for testing oil‘s, and now he is about as solid of proof as you can get for proving Redline’s abilities.

Thank you sir.[emoji41]

I would expect Numbers like that out of a Hemi during daily driving with those miles.

Let’s not forget how often and how long Cory had the tic and he still manages to pull numbers off like this with this much towing using redline.

And that UOA was family in tow up the Ike and at high altitudes!! Try heavy towing up the IKE and do a UOA, yeah buddy. Great numbers that redline 5w30 for sure.

Literally zero shear even towing up the IKE with a truck that had hemi tick. Look at his last three viscosity 5w30 redline versus the other three. One of those was like 6 qrts of 0w40? which one was that?

What were all 6 of those? Only one had moly at 167, the rest all over 400.

I think the 166 one is the PUP 0W-40 , if I remember the PUP 40wt was just above 167 ppms , but it's viscosity is only 10.73 ?

The one that has 166 moly was the 3 qts PUP 0w40 and 4 qts PUP 5w30. That was another good UOA.

The Ike was just one of the spots my truck worked hard. There were some serious hills near the campground we stayed at in upstate NY. Going into Colorado from Nebraska is a steady uphill climb for at least 200 miles so it was working then as well. And on the way back home through Colorado and Nebraska where it should have been 200+ miles of coasting, we had a pretty nasty headwind. The truck wouldn't go out of 4th and was in 3rd a good amount of time trying to maintain 60-65mph.

She worked pretty hard on that trip. Plus keep in mind there were 4 of us in the truck and the bed was loaded up supplies. This is why I'm shocked and absolutely delighted to see how great this UOA is.

RL 5w30 is the stuff.

Kinda hints to answer the question if killing the tick is masking it or fixing something. I never believe it masks the issue, but it provides adequate lubrication for that condition. yes, the tick can come back if you choose to give it inadequate lubrication, but as long as you are giving the hemi adequate lubrication that tick is not only gone but dead and the wear numbers is just another piece of the puzzle. Also hints 5w30 redline may be wearing less then 5w20 redline?
