So the intake manifold on the 6.4 has that internal PCV, well it’s not serviceable and to fix it they have to replace the whole intake manifold, which is $1200. So I’m going to Seafoam the **** out of mine, since I cannot put a catch can on it.

Are you talking about Seafoam in the gas tank or through the throttle body?

Through the throttle body

I heard the CRC version of the intake spray is a little better in terms of ingredients. Haven't tried it though.

Worked great on the 1996 Nissan, and the truck didn’t have any issues with it. Think I’ll add it to the Durango schedule as well

Wonder if this will work

http://www.modernmusclextreme.com/c-353-64l-hemi-intakes.aspx

The OEM one that is ported is a good price. At least its not $1200
Sent while firmly grasping my redline lubed RAM [emoji231]

Only issue I see with that is where the throttle body would mount, that faces driver side, ours faces passenger side.......[emoji848]

Diesel engines have much stronger internals than gasoline engines:FACT!

True, it's a fact, in GENERAL. We all know diesels crank out the torque and have higher compression; so they've got beefy internals, and bulletproof blocks. We also know they hit max power much slower and have slower RPMs. Slower equals less wear. Less wear equals longer life. In GENERAL.

You said, "Even the worst diesel still has much better internals than the best gas engine." It's also a FACT the Oldsmobile diesels, were garbage and those made it to 100k, if you were extremely lucky. We can all pick and choice. Pick that diesel, and the pentastar. Not a favorite, but we have lots of those over 100K.

I see HD Rams abused everyday on job sites. Saying a 5.7 or 6.4 couldn't live to what the 7.3 did, is nothing but looking through rose colored glasses. I'm not trying to pick a fight. I suppose I'm just tired of the 'everything was better before' mentality.

The Olds diesels were a modified 350 or similar gas engine made to run diesel. They were doomed from the start. My grandma had one though and it was pretty neat when it worked.

Yes and no. Yes, they based it off the 350. No, the Olds diesel was not just a gas engine converted to a diesel. Using the same bore and stroke *meant Oldsmobile could build the engines using the same tooling/factories as the gassers. They could also share some of the same part, which is partly why that engine **** the bed. Doesn't change the fact that it is a diesel engine.
Edit: I incorrectly said they had the same size block. The diesel was way beefed up to deal with the 3 higher compression rating.

Without a doubt it's cool just because they were one of the first to put one in a car in the states, imo.

I was very young when my grandparents had one. I don’t think they even had a turbo. They later had one that was converted back to gas engine as those diesels didn’t last. I think all in all they had 3 or 4 of them before I was out of elementary school. I don’t have the compression numbers but they were not like a normal diesel we expect now days from what I have heard. My only real point was that engine was not better built and was a Frankenstein so shouldn’t really be a knock on diesels in general. They had a lot of issues with frozen fuel lines for grandparents since we live so far north. My grandpa always said the lines were too small and that contributed to the problem.

I don’t have real insights since I was far too young. I do recall them sitting in the driveway and not working though.

There are a ton of 8 second Rams out there, all with old diesels. They have a bunch of 9 second 12 valve Cummins out there as well. You know how hard it would be to build an 8 second hemi Ram? For a Cummins, damn near piece of cake. Just youtube it. Funny seeing those old trucks hauling the mail like this?

That sounds like a whole new motor needed.

***UPDATE***

Well sir, you are the winner. I was just informed I am getting a brand new engine.

Originally, they only felt the cam shaft needed replaced and refused to allow me to pay for lifters out of pocket because they didn’t “need replaced”. Yesterday I was notified that they had to order “tappets” (aka lifters ) and needed my truck an extra day. Finally, this morning, they called to say that in fact, a whole engine will be needed and, since there is a national back order on the long block, they will be receiving a whole new assembly from Detroit. They are quoting me to receive my truck back in one- to two- weeks.

Wow...what a journey. While, I’m thankful to have a 2019 Ram as a loaner, I miss my truck. The new ones just aren’t as sexy.

The service advisor stated the reason for the new engine was that the technician noticed there was an “excessive amount of metal down in the pan”. He investigated further and found there was “severe scoring on a couple of the cylinder walls”.

If you aint paying for this, you just kit the hemi tick lotto, new engine, nice.

It is all being covered under warranty. Additionally, he informed me I won’t be charged for the expedited shipping on the other parts ordered. I’ll try to post the invoice/parts list once all is said and done. The service advisor said the part list will be short, given it’s a new assembly.

Is it possible that if you used Red Line and quieted the tick, you never would have found the problem until the engine died?
