I was using a 4/3 blend of 5w20 PUP and 0w40 SRT PUP, but switched to Amsoil SS and decided to go with 5w20 (for the winter) and my oil oil pressure went up a tad at idle in gear. I swear my Hemi feels smoother and quieter, although I've never had a tick.
I guess maybe I should’ve paid more attention to mine to see if my oil pressure went up from what it was after switching the Amsoil SS 5w20.
But see, I never could tell if my engine got any quieter or really even ran any smoother on the Amsoil from the pup 5W20.
Maybe it’s because I was running just a straight 5W20 oil and not mixing 5W20 with 0W40? Not really condemning that practice, I was just always told not to mix oil weights but whatever, I’m just saying it’s not something I’d be interested in.
But I’ve never had that warm idle tick either and the only time so far where my engine has ever really ticked for a very short period was only from starting it up a second time not long after starting it up for a short while the first time. As long as I don’t do that, it doesn’t tick.
I’ll probably switch to 5w30 (Amsoil SS) for summer.
If that Amsoil SS 5W20 is pretty good stuff with a good additive package, supposedly lots of moly and is PAO based at all that then why the purpose to use the heavier 30w oil? Prevention is one thing but since you said you’ve never had a tick, I’m just just curious, as usual.
