For my trade in on the new RAM, I use Mobil 1 for 156k, 12.5 years, in the 2003 Chevy Corvette, lots of mods, 403 rwhp. Changed oil every 3-4 thousand mile. I would say it was very good oil. For the RAM I have 3 free oil changes from the dealer. I will be putting in RP after that, oil is very close in price, unless it is on sale.

Has anyone tried Lucas synthetic motor oil. any reason not to oil guru's who know more then I

Lucas Oils are very Gimmikie, use of oil thickeners and other junk that has been widely discussed on oil boards. Here, looks pretty bad for a synthetic, Low TBN, High NOACK, as expected the oil is on the thick range of the visc, and no Moly. Lucas oils for for guys who buy into marketing, as opposed to guys who follow what a quality oil is. Those PQIA numbers do not lie, the proof is in the oil sampling.

Amsoil certification

Does anyone know if Amsoil SS carries the MS-6395 certification? Their data sheet says its "recommended" for the spec but it doesn't say it's certified.

If it isn't worded as "meets/exceeds Chrysler MS6395" than it doesn't carry the certification.

As far as I know the only oils that are certified currently are Pennzoil/Shell oils.

I would agree. They only say it is recommended for the spec. Nothing on the sheet about meeting or exceeding.

I do see that. I was under the impression Pennzoil was the only certified oil and Amsoil made their own recommendation towards the spec but it has never been tested. Interesting.

I see what you are saying so I emailed Amsoil and asked them if it's actually certified or just stating that it would meet it. So hopfully I will have some clarity on it by Tuesday....

Something we don't talk about enough is popular product lines high performance oils. Like we talk about Mobil 1 but not Mobil 1 EP, and it looks like really good oil, high zinc and moly. So this isn't a VOA so it isn't as accurate but here Mobil 1 EP is against Penzoil Ultra on paper. Both look outstanding. Not a Ram, but I thought it would interest some folks here.

I just looked up EP, I can't find a VOA with moly or zinc levels even close to these

It doesn't show any moly levels but the product guide from the mobil 1 website has the zinc at 900., here pdf. And I have looked up a voa had the moly at 77 and another at 91, so a little higher then mobil 1 for sure on both. Interesting what mobil 1 does with zinc levels in that product guide, high milage has higher zinc at 1000ppm, racing even higher, and wow on a vtwin oil. Gives you an idea how important zinc is in different applications. I wish they showed the moly levels as well, sigh. Remember all oils used to have these levels but the gov't took it out, but good news for guys wanting more zinc, you still can get it in specialty syn oils. IMO 1200ppm is good zinc for any vehicle.

Looks like I was wrong, I thought they would loose their api cert with zinc at 900, but apparently if I am reading right they still have the cert, dunno whatever on that, do your own research if api cert is important to you, it isn't to me.

If an owner wants more zinc (like myself) and you use M1 EP or Regular M1... Look into adding 2qts of M1 HM 5W-30 to your oil change... It is loaded with Zinc...

The last VOA I witnessed showed 1057ppm Zinc...
One thing you have to remember--->These blenders are constantly changing their formulas... So the PPM might change every so often... Castrol is popular for this but others seem to follow...

M1 Racing 0W-30 shows to have 2442ppm of zinc... I actually bought a qt of this to mix in with my Winter oil change... I could not figure out how many ounces to blend in with the other Qts to achieve the proper mix... I then switched to PU for my summer oil change ... So the 0W-30 is sitting on the shelf for now... It also shows at the time of the VOA...

Moly---------1654ppm
Boron--------118
Calcium------3152
Phosphorus--2202

Just might run this in the Generac Generator and Stick with what I am currently running now-->She is So Smooth and Quiet!

Zinc can cause damage to the cats if I am not mistaken. I do not know how much is required to cause this but I do know on my 05 Durango with Hemi I had to replace one and it was about $500. Just something to talk about I am not an expert on it by any means.

Yes it can smiley: Thus we have to really be careful with this matter. Phosphorus & Zinc do not play well together with the Cats...

I myself don't know what the exact fine line is on PPM... Thus the reason for not flirting with the mixing... Still doing research on the matter...

Coming up on my next oil change very soon and not sure I want to stick with PUP. I'd love a higher moly oil but I'd really like to find it locally...preferably Walmart

I wouldn't run a high zinc oil in a Hemi without a catch can. After having one for a couple years now and seeing the amount of oil it stops the engine from ingesting, I am can see how a high zinc oil could foul up the cats...
