Towing help

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 02 crew cab 4x4 with the 4.7 in it. I need it to occasionally haul a 30' offshore boat that weighs around 8k would it be able to handle that without too much strain?

Nope, IMHO as that's gonna be way over your rated tongue weight and the 4.7 just won't have sufficient torque to move that mass efficiently unless you are towing downhill both ways.

I think the 4.7 will be able to pull it (by be able I mean, just get by). But that is well over the legal/rated limit, and probably not a good idea. I think the limit on my 4.7 with long bed (stick, 4x4) is 5,300 lbs.

EDIT: I find it weird that vehicle ratings in Europe are WAY higher than here (for the same vehicles). Cars in Europe are rated to tow similar amounts to our pickups.

That's way too much to comfortably tow with a 4.7. It'll be basically to the floor all the time and up hills you'll be over in the truck lane with your blinkers on. And chances are that it will overheat.

I towed a 8500# camper with my 2014 4x4 5.7 6 speed 3.55GR DIFF.
My truck is rated for more , but that 8,500 lbs was all I believe it could safely and efficiently tow with me in the drivers seat ...

Thanks for the help I'm gonna look for a 5.7 instead and regear it and also put an external cooler on the tranny

If should already have an external cooler in front of the radiator.
