So I’ve seen where everybody that has traction bars uses the caltracs or something very similar to them. Has anybody used a set of old school traction bars and had any luck out of them?

Havn't seen a set of old school bars in years, and even then they were hard to find for coil springs.

3rd gen Rams use leaf springs. 4th gen use coils. This is the 3rg gen forum. Get your forums straight. ;)

Sorry, didn't look which forum this was in, I usually just hit "New posts" and see what comes up. Didn't mean to intrude.

Might not be "beneficial", but they look cool.

The cool looks are fine but I’m more about benefits than I am about looks

I saw a overload spring with the rear portion cutoff. The front had a bump installed. It looked like it could help with holding the leaf spring straight.

Thanks! Do you know if they make a floating rear end kit with ladder bars for these trucks?

I am sure they could make a floater kit for you, but IMO there are very good reasons you haven't seen anyone using one for 50 years. My recommendation is to look at a truckarm suspension. It is smooth, tracks great, adjustable for racing. Only draw back I have using one is exhaust is difficult to route and fit. Of course with any modification of this nature the gas tank needs to be relocated.

Old school lakewoods would be more detrimental to your truck then beneficial, the front segment on these 3g truck is 31.5 inches from axle Cl to front bushing, the old style lakewoods will hit the spring at about 14-18 inches away from the front bushing , in effect bending the spring and forcing the spring to wrap instead of stiffening.
Caltracs are about the best option in you want to go with a "slapper bar"

I’m not necessarily looking for any type of look or style in particular. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the caltracs. I was just wondering if there were any other effective systems that would work. I’ve been looking at the caltracs from Moes, if I buy the kit for the spring over axle will I be able to use them on spring under axle when I go lower? Right now I’m just running drop shackles. End goal is to go with a 2/4 but that may be a while. So I guess my big question is, will I be able to use the same bars spring over and spring under?

On the Caltrac Question, I honestly can't answer that , Mat at Moes would be the one to ask, or contact Caltracs themselves.
As for other systems depends on how involved you want to get. Ruffstuff and a few other have anti Wrap systems http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/Antiwrap.html
Keith(charged392) on HTC does a long bar system that people have had success with.

I’ll look into those and get in touch with either Mat or caltracs and see about the details of those. Thanks for the input!

Unfortunately the Caltrac kits are different when using a flip kit.

I guess I’ll just wait till I do a flip kit to buy caltracs then. Thanks for the insight on that!
