The 6.7 has a variable vain turbo. The ECM can change the pitch on the blades of the turbo to change the functionality of it. That is how the exhaust brake on the 6.7's work. Also why after market 6.7 turbo's are so much more.

They have a much wider efficiency zone because the system can keep them in the sweet spot. :)

But with out all the electronics and fancy stuff comes reliability and all that ... so it's a trade off either way.

i've just heard more good things about the 5.9 then the 6.7. the particulent filter in the exhaust on the 6.7 plugs up and makes the truck run very rough and eventually needs replaced. my dad works at the fire department and their engines have cummins and it would cost $3000 to fix it. so i doubt its far off from that on a regular truck.

dpf clogs only if you idle it too much and grandma the truck...deleting it is so damn easy now though so that's what most folks do

oh and both turbos have the same size compressor and exhaust wheel, which is 60 mm, but the A/R ratio on the 6.7 turbo changes
