My dads 2016 cummins 2500 has been having cold start/running issues with 9500 miles on it, he took it to the dealer. Of course it "ran perfect" for them while they had it for a whole week... But they updated it to this "181904fz flash quick learn 4696 wdi" any info on what this update is? They said they don't know. Ram/mopar won't tell us what is in this update... [emoji848]

Hi lpfm1990,

Based on the information in your post I believe this is the TSB that was applied on your father's vehicle:

"NUMBER: 18-015-17 REV. A
GROUP: Vehicle Performance
DATE: March 10, 2017

SUBJECT:
Flash: 6.7L Diagnostic And System Improvements

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) have been changed from a one trip fault
to a two trip fault:
• P0421 - Catalyst 1 Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1.
• P2280 - Air Flow Restriction / Leak Between Air Cleaner And MAF.
• P203C - (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Reductant Level Sensor Circuit Low.
• P208D - (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Reductant Pump Control Circuit High.

A small number of customers may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. Upon further investigation a technician may find the following DTCs set in the PCM memory:
• P1451 - Diesel Particulate Filter System Performance.
• P229E - NOx Sensor Circuit - Bank 1 Sensor 2.
• P0128 - Thermostat Rationality Improvements.
• P2281 - Air Leak Between MAF and Throttle Body.
• P218F - Reductant No Flow Detected.
• P0218 - Transmission High Temperature Operation Activated (68RFE Only).
• P0868 - Line Pressure Low, MIL Action (68RFE Only).
• U110E - Lost Ambient Temperature Message.
• P205E - (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Reductant Tank Temperature Sensor Circuit
Intermittent (setting when the block heater is plugged in).

In addition to addressing the above DTCs, the following powertrain system
improvements/enhancements are also included in this software release:
• **Improvement to correct engine feels like low or reduced power.**
• Engine Noise Improvements.
• Engine Hesitation Improvement.
• Improved Engine Fuel Economy.
• Reduction in engine noise during regeneration at idle.
• 68RFE Transmission Overall Shift Quality Improvements.
• Test results fix for partial range misfire (68RFE Only).
• Ambient Air Temperature Improvements.
• Stationary Desoot with wiTECH Fix.
• OBD Misfire Monitoring Improvement (68RFE Only)."

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

That is excellent info, Andrea.

Some of those updates should have an affect on the cold start issues.

Yeah. My dad was having issues when it got down below 55-60 till the mod 30's, it would surge horribly on a cold start up. And wouldn't have any power and basically die and come back to life if you tried to drive it (pulling out into traffic was gamble) once it got warmed up. It was fine. The dealer at first said. "Are you letting it cycle threw the pre-heat" which he always does (he's had 3 diesels, and has been driving semi truck for 40 years)

The weird part is. We both have cummins, and our trucks were built 10 days apart. Mines a 3500 tradesmen. His is a 2500 loaded big horn

And he's up, said, wasn't cold enough this morning to go threw the warm up cycle (where it comes up on the dash "please wait, diesel preheat in progress") but. Fired up quicker then prior and ran smooth and no issues

He told me there is probably an add transmission cooler add on for towing ? I have a oil leak and I need fixed Gasket- GE , Cover-TIM ,Seal- CRAN , Gasket- OI, Gasket- VA found a guy to fix for $400.00 .
