Using 2 Cycle Oil in Diesel Fuel

    Ok Gang...

    I'm sure a lot of your have heard about this concept and would like to get more information about it. I'm not the one that started it but a guy that's nickname is Dorkweed over on my forum started it back in 06. I'm the one that picked up the torch and continued on.

    Why do we need to use it?
    Because the VP44 was designed for fuel scoring <450 HFRR and today fuels range around ~520 HFRR which means there is less lubricant in the fuel. Now if the delivery truck for gets to add the lube package to the truck before delivery then the fuel can be up wards of 650 HFRR which can be quite damaging.

    How much 2 cycle oil to use?
    128:1 Ratio is fine for 12V and 24V Cummins trucks. On CR engines up to 07 you want to use 200:1 ratio. Beyond 07 don't use 2 cycle oil...

    How about other fuel additives how did they score?
    This was a independent lab that do the testing of fuel additives.

    Will 2 cycle oil effect performance of the engine or MPG?
    Yes... It will typically give a slight gain of 1-2 MPG and may even give about 10-20 HP gain if mixed properly. Reason why is because 2 cycle oil is a cetane reducer. So as the cetane is reduced the BTU's rise which means more work can be done in a single stoke.

    ASTM testing labs grading scale for diesel fuels... Take notice as cetane rises the BTU's fall... Hence why winter fuels with high cetane give poor fuel mileage.

    Will 2 cycle oil plug my injectors or fuel filters?
    Simply No... I've been running 2 cycle oil for over 100K miles and absolutely no problems with filters or injectors.

    Injector after 80K miles of 2 cycle oil.

    Well depends on what a fill is?

    If it your first dose then you would use 1 quart of 2 cycle oil for a full tank of fuel. But every time you stop for fuel from there on you only add 1 oz of oil for every 1 gallon of fuel. So if you stop and put $40 buck in and get 10.195 gallons then you would add 10 ozs of oil. Pretty simple right?

    I normally carry 1 gallon jug of WalMart SuperTech Outboard 2 cycle oil in the bed of the truck with a old 1 quart oil bottle with the see-thru sides so I can measure the oil out...

    Thank you...

    Diesels are a whole different animal being the fuel must ignite solely on compression. Not like gasoline engines where you ignite with a spark plug and fuel must not pre-ignite (ping).

    I do the same, Supertech is the cheapest and highest on the list for me to obtain easily.

    Seriously these are some of the common chemicals if fuel additives... I didn't see any lubricants in that list did you???
