i was more so talking about the contact surface on the plunger. is it chewed up like the contact? if the plunger is barely making contact with the terminal that is probably why you are having issues.

it looks like it is pretty chewed also. i am guessing between the chewed up contact and that there is probably enough material gone to stop the starter from working. if you got a rubber or plastic washer kicking around you could try shimming the 1 contact and see how it works. you just need to shim the contact enough that the plunger lands on a thicker section.

I tried putting a rubber washer but the metal plunger hits the contact. I'll just buy a reman starter and end this headache.

you might need to tighten the nut a bit more if the rubber washer is too thick. you could possibly try replacing the contact/plunger with a kit like i posted a link to on amazon. that is likely all the ones at the parts store get which is why the contact wear out so quick. all new parts are so cheaply made.

I think I'm better off with a reman since it's freezing and snowing out like everyday the old starter will be a pain to install and I don't even know if it will work or not.

Ok I finally put a reman starter in my truck and now when I turn the key the starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel. Wtf

did you test the starter before putting it in? if you got the starter bolted in like it should be then it should be working properly. maybe the plunger in the rebuild starter is too short and not pushing the gear far enough out.

They tested the starter at auto zone when I bought it and it passed. This is just my luck lol.
