Hello all,
I have a 2006 2500 Power Wagon and want to install a vhf/uhf ham radio. I was wondering if anyone else could share suggestions on where to mount it? Thanks.

Thanks for replying. Yea, I had a CB in that spot originally, but the radio is larger than the CB and will not mount there. The bracket is more towards the front of the radio and the dash console is not deep enough. I'm still looking for some ideas. Thanks.

I use strip velcro and put mine up on the dash. Did it in my 1500 and continued in my 2500. Works great, doesn't rattle, stays put, easy access and easy removal.

Sorry about the dark pics....it's dark....

SilverStreak,
Thanks for the info!! Unfortunately my console is on the floor and does not pull down, so I dont have that kind of room.

Okay, I just mounted mine today in a custom fabbed bracket like I posted above. If you like that area (like I mounted) then you can probably hit up the salvage yard and get the (drop down cup holder) and pull the floor mount out. I'm guessing that transfer case shifter is part of that console? Might have to get the standalone trim that goes around it.

That's a nice radio, those wires running down the dash don't bother you?

That's how I've done mine in 2 trucks before. I didn't use a bracket to the floor, just used the center seatbelt to strap it to the front of the center seat in that position. Worked like a charm and no holes in the floor.
I'm not to worried about it. I made the mount and she's solid now.

Jumping in late to the party but what unit do you want to get. I was going to install a kenwood in my old 07 and copy what I saw someone do on the cummins forum and mount it right under a single din radio in the oem radio location. Looked really slick almost factory.

But there are many units out there from the old cobra 29 to kenwood tm-710g which let's you mount the bulky control unit hidden somewhere and the compact display screen on the dash or console Kenwood TM-D710GA 144/440 MHz FM Dual Band Mobiles TM-D710G - Free Shipping on Most Orders Over $99 at DX Engineering
