LOL ,

The CTD needs to be up to temp before running . This will get you there quicker and keep cabin heat hotter . I will also be using my block heater , 2 battery blankets , and a trans heater .

How cold does it get up there.

Geez... I got to get in on this...

Mine are made from a old aluminum road sign. I bowed them slightly so the bolt in the center pulls them in tight and they don't rattle.

i have to agree. when its either temp it is too cold for me. in cant find my self in the port a potty when it is that cold. but i can find my winter fronts they never shrink.

Well... I had to toss it out there... You know me "The Mountain Man"... But Now think to yourself... Cold air intakes? When do you switch over to WARM air intake??? Hmmm.... Eventually there will be a loss of performance because diesel require compressed air to be warm enough to fire diesel fuel hence why the grid heater. But still driving around with -xx*F of air being sucked in... More food for thought...

Dam you ...

So what do you recommend for the guys like me that have a CAI ?

I know you have a CAI ... what do you do to restrict the cold air in low temps ?

Now that you brain it thinking... I've got no answer I'm at the stag of playing with different ideas. Like I've tried running without a fan on the engine, winter fronts, etc. But the thing is eventually the cold air does take its toll on performance because of how the diesel engine does function.

AUTO IGNITION TEMPERATURE DEFINED - Wikipedia.Org
The autoignition temperature' or kindling point of a substance is the lowest temperature at which it will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. This temperature is required to supply the activation energy needed for combustion. The temperature at which a chemical will ignite decreases as the pressure increases or oxygen concentration increases. It is usually applied to a combustible fuel mixture.
Autoignition temperatures of liquid chemicals are typically measured using a 500 mL flask placed in a temperature controlled oven in accordance with the procedure described in ASTM E659.[1]

I wonder if a guy could block off the incoming air to the CAI box and just run engine temp air ? IE .. open box

Now there is something to play with... Get you a ScanGauge II or simular and monitor the Intake Air Temp from the ECM and you'll relize there is about +40*F offset to the manifold air temp over outside temp. The trick is getting the manifold temp back up to about 70-90*F roughly in the winter.

Just my BHAF and a winter front gives me a +50*F offset... Only a +10*F gain over BHAF and no winter front. That ScanGauge is a very helpful tool in getting the most out of these engines. Optimial manifold temp is between 100-140*F (summer weather). But anything between 60-100*F in the manifold works OK.
