My 08 3500 Mega Cab has a 3.73 axle which according to the dodge.com specs limits towing capacity to 13,500 lbs, while the 4.1 axle shows 16,500 lbs.

I have series E 10 ply tires rated at 2,600 lbs cold at 65 PSI, and need to pull a 5th wheel with dry weight of 13,690 lbs and loaded about 16,000 lbs.

Is there a workaround for this limitation outside of changing out the rear axle ???????

You cant legally change the tow rating
It is what it is from the factory(even if you change to another factory option)

Your truck can certainly handle that weight but the outcomes legally for hauling overweight can be pretty severe

The rating is conservative. You have more room to tow a bit more weight. If you want the best overall rating, then there's no way around it but to change out the ring and pinion.
