Have a 2015 1500 with 5'7" bed. I bought a Solid Fold 2.0 tonneau. I have lined the trunk walls and front of bed with weather seal to keep water out. The bottom of the gate does not have seal since i'm assuming gravity will continue to work while i own this truck to keep the water out.

Can i huck my dogs in the back with the top and gate closed for a 2 hour drive? Will they die? Any experience or advice?

Honest, even hot days in SC the temperature hasn't been too bad as the Solid Fold has great insulation.

I may experiment by jumping in there tonight with the dogs in and the truck on, bring my book and read for a couple hours... will let you know, but curious to see if anyone else has done this.

@adrianp89 i have three children in the back of the truck so prefer dogs riding in back.

@kidder no joke. may throw in a dog bed so they are comfortable. lab and a jack russel. they are old though so they don't care too much about comfort.

@selcher ???

Just thought of an idea... i could wedge a piece of wood between tonneau and tailgate for additional airflow... and maybe install some lights so they can see.

Have a bench seat front console? Flip it up and dogs can sit there. Or put a kid there and stick dogs on remaining back seat. That's really not fair to the dogs to stick them in the box of the truck.... I really hope you don't do that to the poor creatures!

do you really think a dog bed is going to do anything? everytime you take a turn, they are gonna go sliding. hit a bump and they are going to go flying.

wow, didn't realize there were so many sensitive Ram Truck owners... imo this would be plush compared to some of the other exterior options... my grandfather has used one of these setups for over 30 years without issue.

A couple of those look like they would be safe and sustainable, but the pet carrier cargo strapped to the hitch mounted luggage rack reminds me of National Lampoon Vacation....sorry Sparky. Also the husky is way too big for that Monte Carlo carrier.

Personally I don't have kids and prefer the look of a RCSB, but I bought a Quad Cab just so that my dog could ride in the back seat instead of the truck bed. My dog is a member of my family, not a piece of luggage.

I totally agree there.

until somebody rear ends you...

if you want to put your dogs in the bed of the truck, you need a camper shell with windows that open. they need to be in a secured crate. just throwing them under the tonno cover and hoping for the best is ****** up. if you feel that its acceptable, you really shouldnt have pets. its not about being sensitive, its being humane.

Truck cap with windows open, sure. Tonneau, I don't see a good way to get fresh clean air in and old air out, without modding a CAI (type device) into the bed somehow. As for dogs being flung around, I see dogs in beds all the time (tethered to both sides) and they are fine as long as you don't drive crazy.

CAI? I'm assuming some ventilation system?

Sorry, cold air intake. And, an actual cold air intake (think of the old hood scoops). I say that because, if you google cold air intake, you may find system which just pull air from under the hood.

If you could find a tanneau cover on the cheap somwhere, you could modify it to have a couple of "scoops" in the front grabbing some clean fresh air, then somehow vent the back. If yours is as easy to take off/on as mine, this would be an easy solution for your "dog days", then you could put your every day driver cover on when you don't have the dogs.

OK!!! I understand people disagree with dogs in the trunk, but there are no laws against it and people do it all the time.

Instead of expressing your views on the treatment of animals on Ram Forum, instead petition your lawmakers to put rules in place against it. What about airplanes? that's got to be pretty terrible too. Or even worse, how about field dogs bought by people who live in the city, now that fking sucks!

My dogs have had great lives, are outside all day and frequently chasing down deer, squirrels, cats, etc, instead of sitting in a house and watching their owners watch tv. you question my dogs safty, at least they aren't losing their sanity!

"its not about being sensitive, its being humane" well check out how chickens, pigs and cattle are handled, now that really sucks and i'm sure you're now going to stop eating steak!

I'm seeking thoughts on this very topic so i'm not being abusive, and as long as the airflow is good and they have something to sit on, it's looking like it's fine. Again, i'm going to test personally before i throw them in there.

Hahhahahah!!!

ahhh... awesome idea. i think i could do that without too much effort with the extang solid fold. in fact, their customer service has been so good i'll call and see if they have any ideas.

thx!
