Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me out. I have a 2013 Ram with the 8.4AN system. I upgraded the software on the radio from 13.38.52 to 15.26.1 and now I am having issues with the microphone. When talking on the phone, people say it sounds like I am "far away" and trying to give this thing a voice command makes me look like a lunatic that needs some anger management. I have to scream at it and it still doesn't pickup what I am saying. Occasionally it will tell me it is Activating Navigation, which is weird.

I have tried reinstalling the software, but that didn't help. I deleted my phone and paired it again, and that didn't help.

I doubt the mic went bad, it was working fine before the update. I did do the backup camera within a day of updating. I did pull the radio out to connect the wires for the camera but I am certain I didn't mess that up. All I had to do back there was add the three wires, I didn't have to pull any pins, and I plugged everything back in.

I am at a loss, I could try to load the old software if I could find a copy of it, but haven't had any luck. I may try to take it to the dealer on Friday and see if they can load the old software, unless someone knows a little trick.

Thanks for any and all help.

While I haven't noticed this issue I have had several other issues with the latest firmware. 14.25.5 was rock solid firmware. I'm thinking of rolling back. If I do successfully I'll let you know that it's safe to do so. I may just wait for the next firmware release though.

I have the same issue with people not being able to hear me well but the voice recognition works pretty well so it sounds like something is wrong with your system. It's too bad because I really liked the hands-free talking at first but I've just grown tired of people asking what I said so I keep a wired headset. For quick/easy calls with friends and family I'll scream into the speaker. Anything work related I hookup the headset and people always say, "Wow!" that is WAY more clear than before. I guess my point is even at its best the hands free is marginal.

Any luck rolling back to 14.25.5? Do you have that update on a flash drive that I could get from you and I could try it?

Thanks

@bubbasneed,

Did your 2013 come with the 8.4AN from the factory??

If so, can you post the details from the back of your radio if you have it since I'm trying compare radio p/n's and firmware by year. Thanks. ( and hopefully start an archive of fw files with download links for reverting as needed).

- 2013 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

- 2014 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

- 2015 8.4AN (RA4/VP4 NA, p/n)
v.XX
v.XX
etc.

2014 Ram 8.4AN
68224525AB
14.25.5>15.26.1

Zero problems since original install and recent update.

That is exactly what I am thinking about doing. The radio seems to be working better now but had serious volume issues for a while and audio settings kept changing on there own. My radio is out of the 90 day warranty and I upgraded the maps so I am a little hesitant. The 14 25.5 worked great for me too. Another member just posted having similar issues after the update as well. Hopefuly Chrysler will release a fix if they have enough problems with this version.

My radio did come with the AN from the factory. My truck was imported into the US from Canada so it definitely has the CA radio. I will take a picture of the back of the radio and post it today or tomorrow at the latest.

Thanks

Will you please PM me that download link? I am ready to try it this weekend. I hate not being able to use my Mic.

Thank you.

****WARNING TO BUBBASNEED AND COOLEMOFF1******

Woe cowboys 14.25.05 is not compatable with 2015 radios do not install it on your radio, if it actuallly installs there is a very strong chance it will brick it!

The firmware versions for these radios have three groups

2013-2014-share the same firmware
2015-has its own unique firmware
2016-has its own unique firmware

Also for what it is worth, my microphones work quite well, I have had folks actually think I was on a land line. The only time I have problems with it is when the HVAC blower is running, this is a known issue and the only cure for it is to turn the hvac blower down or off off works the best.

I have 14 truck however I do have 15 8.4AN in the truck, It is running 15.06.1 and runs flawlessly. I will not be upgrading it anytime soon. 15.26.1 was a hastily thrown together update as a knee jerk response to the uconnect hacking threat. Many people have reported problems with it from minor to bricked radios.

Bubba should be good, his is a 2013 but Coole appears to have a 2015 and if that's the case you are correct and it will not work...

@cptwing,

Do you happen to know if those 3 VP4 NA (RA4) firmware groups match up with specific radio p/n's?

We really need a thread somewhere for this fw stuff with download links and the appropriate warnings/details. I'm willing to host the files but I need more info before I can safely consider starting a thread. ( you interested?)

No, sorry I do not know the various versions for the different radios. I and others really appreciate what you are trying to do. I wish I had the information and files you need to do this.

I misread bubbas year oops.

I rolled my firmware back to 14.25.5 and I am still having the same issue with the microphone.

I did figure out, on both 14.25.5 and 15.26.1 if my truck isn't started the other person can hear me great. As soon as I start the truck they say it sounds like I am far away. I tried turning the HVAC controls all the way off. My truck is stock (no cai or aftermarket muffler) and just idling in the drive way they had a hard time hearing me.

My truck does have the automatic high beam headlights and the rain sensing wipers. Also I have a small chip in my windshield. I don't know if any of this makes a difference but just wanted to point it out.

Thanks.

My radio is supposed to be out of a 15 and my truck is a 15
But my radio has software 13.08 if I remember correctly or something similar
I read that it's prolly a 2013 radio but of course I was thinking update get few more features
But I have not done anything with update yet

Post the part number of the back of the radio. It may be out of a 2015 Cherokee or some other Chrysler brand.
Detail the error message that pops up as well. Might help.

Hopefully Indaram will pop in to answer since he went through a similar situation.

I am trying to verify all the correct RAM 8.4AN /vp4 NA part numbers for each model year radio to help with this ****uation.

Repost here also if you don't mind...

I have tried both version's of the software listed in this thread and my Mic still sucks if the engine is running.

I contacted a dealer about a replacement, and it was $800 plus:jawdrop:, No thanks. I will just use my phone on speaker.

Thanks everyone for the help.
