So your saying there's a chance .

If I'm understanding you properly Sir , the biggest hurdle to overcome is getting a dealer to add the sales codes ?
Why would there be two codes for the compass option ?
Is CUN homelink , I thought the Compass was just CV2...

I thank you Sir for your input .

I think you have the codes backwards.

Either way, compass doesn't work in mine (they replaced the compass module supposedly).
I was hoping the dealer would have it working with my factory RA2 before installing the RA4. Looks like mostly not!

FYI. Looked over the schematic for my compass module (under 'Message Systems').

The module only uses 3 wires, 12v (fuse 80), Gnd, and Lin Bus CBC2 to the BCM.
The compass data must then pass through the BCM to the Evic (mine has the option to display it, but it's blank) and also to the radio over the Can Bus (unless there is a dedicated Lin Bus CBC2 input).

Since I have no compass data on either my radio or 7" Evic, there is most likely an issue with the BCM, the CUN (or CV2) sales code for the BCM, or the compass module still isn't putting out the signal to the BCM (if it was in fact replaced).
Mpgrimm2 EDIT:
- Sales code, CUN, is standard over head console & compass module. 68105821AB

- Sales code, CV2, is over head console w/HomeLink. 68105822AB

Also need the JFJ, TEMPERATURE & COMPASS GAUGE, sales code added to get it to show up on the RA4 radio (thanks for pointing it out CuylerTech)

Here's the schematic for my 2013
2013 Ram MESSAGE-SYSTEMS Compass Module.pdf

and some compass notes:
Ram Compass Calibration error Notes.doc

and the list of all 2013 SalesCodes:

What is weirder is the home link works without adding the code. I added the homelink / compass module along with the overhead console, I had to build my own harness for it as well. The compass never showed up on the RA2 or the RA4 but the home link showed up in the EVIC and works great. I never had the compass at all in the original EVIC though. When I upgraded my cluster I got the compass in the EVIC.

Apparently the 7 inch EVIC has its own compass built in independent of the overhead module or the clusters have different firmware based on the radio your truck comes with. The RA2, I believe relies on the compass module that comes in the non home link overhead console. The RA3 and RA4 radios may or may not rely on the module but need the sales code to display the compass and outside temp info.

Mike as far as your RA2 not displaying the compass heading and saying "NO SIGNAL" that was a firmware issue with the radio. Uconnect released an update back in 2014 which actually disabled it. I actually called them and spoke to a uconnect service rep and he confirmed that it was a software issue, they knew about it and that it was actually done deliberately to avoid some sort of software conflict. He told me at the time he did not know when it would be fixed. I have seen a great deal of others that have the same issue as you and never got it fixed. I know one guy who did but he never knew or would say what the dealer did to fix it.

Roush it sounds like you have a very different issue being that you do have the compass in the 3.5 EVIC, did your compass also work on your RA2 prior to the swap? Again I know guys who swapped RA2 to RA4 in 2013 trucks and had the compass and outside temp on the radio so your issue is strange.

I'm afraid if your gonna get it working your likely gonna have to do all the work yourself , from the module install and the harness install to the green connector behind the drivers vent . Sounds like your dealer will flash the codes you need and honestly that may be all they are good for !

I wish there was a way to flash these codes ourselves ...

my ra2 had a functioning compass and my evic displays outside temp. My theory now is ra3-4 radios manufactured in 2013 did not have compass or outside temp but haven't confirmed this. I am going to email NAV repair and see if they can confirm

I really do appreciate the help/comments, but since this is likely not an RA4 Radio Firmware issue, can we continue the compass discussion over at this thread...

Compass not working ?

Please requote/repost anything you find useful. If I don't get to it.

Didn't you install the HomeLink compass module? (vs. standard overhead/compass with CUN code)?

It was the JFJ that put them on the radio, CV2 for the compass. I never tested the compass before flashing the sales code, but i do know that occasionally after installing the RA4 it would force the GPS compass heading onto the icon for NAV on the radio.

The reverse has sometimes been problematic, but I'm not sure of this scenario. At first guess I would say no, it should work fine.

My 2014 RA3 has both compass and outside temp available in both EVIC and radio displays. The only thing I don't get is the compass rose display. As far as I know, the 13-14 radios are identical.

Confirmed by Austin at NAV repair. 2013 year radios do not have the ability to display compass or outside temp. That was new for 2014 year radios.

My Trouble shooting notes from the 8.4 upgrade thread:
Just because I never figured this out,

What is the 2nd from right pink plug on the back of the radio since I don't seem to have any thing to plug in to it?

Left to Right:
- blank
- White: Radio Antenna
- blank
- Olive: XM Antenna
- Pink: ???
- Purple: Cellular Antenna (or 10K ohm bypass plug)
View attachment 62808

Edit:
Looking at the schematics, it's the GPS Antenna input? Is everyone doing the mod from RA1/RA2 to RA4 without using this signal?
Does NAV work correctly without it?

Edit:
Yes. Satellite doubles as good Antenna per Loveracing1988's reply

Well not sure what to make of this 2016 radio and whether or not it is actually compatible with 2013 RAM trucks?
(NavRepair indicated it was)

I installed PN: 68258671AE
but there is NO SOUND WHATSOEVER and the volume buttons on my steering wheel do not seem to work with the radio.

Also can't enter/change any settings because it thinks the key is not in the ACC or RUN position?

Strange.

Radio, XM, Compass, GPS, Nav, etc all seem to work, but no sound . still using my old bezel and wiring for the moment.

Might try to temp rig the MTC Bezel and try a factory reset.
Not willing to commit fully to the 4 speed wiring conversion without the radio working.
b25a1779bf0fc833cf10b2150df2cc53.jpg

Edit 2:
With MTC Bezel temporarily installed. Still no audio; Mute buttons work fine. But still no Volume.

Factory reset radio. (Hold hot & cold for 5secs, select Reset to factory). Still no sound. Mute button works to mute/unmute and shows the volume is clearly at (0).

Still will not adjust up/down with right side steering wheel controls (center 'mode' button works) or volume knob on MTC Bezel.

Dang it, Dang it.
Any one know what software version is supposed to be on these 2016 radios for RAM trucks?

This 2016 RA4 shows v 15.25.8
(From Chrysler 200c)
b64bb8d2cc2fe68cfc943aad273fe5cd.jpg

de39b6d76f8590a878a70f09b8207f0a.jpg

2 problems with this 2016 RA4...
- Can't turn the volume up from (0). None of the volume up/down controls work at all.
- Doesn't detect key in "run" position to allow any changes under "settings" menu.

Factory reset doesn't help.
No change between MTC vs ATC bezels.
Using phone pairing to mute/unmute a call doesn't help.

I suspect it is either not compatible with the 2013-2015 trucks or it has the wrong firmware due to being in a Chrysler 200c. (Can't download any 2016 firmware from uConnect with any valid 2016 VIN because it says radio is up to date).
I think Page 105 post #1050 is getupkid post about the 2016 radio
Thanks. Looks like the others who said so were correct. Not sure how getupkid got his hands on one so early.

Alright, so after having the 2016 8.4an installed for a little over a week, I have had 2 issues. The first is about 10 percent of the time the menu items at the bottom don't show up. The second item is about 12 hours after installation I started the truck and no radio volume. If I scroll the volume knob or use the volume buttons on the steering wheel, the volume level shows up on the screen but is stuck at 0. This issue remains until I disconnect the positive from the battery and touch the negative to reset the system, then again after about 12 hours, same issue.

I reached out to Sean at Schram and he said that if I took it to the dealership and had the sales code flashed that everything will work. I brought it in to the dealership today and they had no idea how to add sales codes. I called another dealer and they wanted $180. For me it's not worth the money with the potential that it won't fix the issues. If anyone wants to buy this radio from me for $500, let me know and I'll ship it out tomorrow. Otherwise I will be returning it tomorrow to Schram.

12-30-15 EDIT (Via Email):

NavRepair Support Team said:
Here is what I know so far. There are 3 branches of SW for MY16 radios:

• MY16 Normal – Aries – UF, KL, LA/LD/LX, DS, ZD
• MY16 V2 – Gemini 2 – WK/WD
• MY16.5 – Gemini 3 – RU (minivan) coming soon

The Part# 68258671XX is for WK Vehicles (Grand Cherokee) and it runs Gemini software branch.

The RAM trucks run the DS version . DS vehicles belong to the Aries branch of Software.

So it looks like compatibility issues.

Waiting on more info to confirm.

NavRepair Support Team

1-24-16 EDIT:
Update: Added some info on Canadian RA4 VP4_CA radios and PN's to POST 7 and my RA4 Info thread's OP.

These VP4_CA radios apparently support north American maps and may be a better option. Take a look at the post.

ALSO NOTE:
I went back and checked the 15.17.5 2015-2016 FW file that Indaram posted previously (see post 8) and highlighted the 2 groups of radio PN's for the RAM trucks (DS series) per that file...

I really think the 2016 radios a few of us have received and had problems with are in fact not compatible with the ram trucks. Here are the part numbers from that file for 2015 and 2016...

-- MY15 DS/WK/KL V2
ecu_part_number["68238619"] = "68238619AG" -- MY15 VP4 NA

ecu_part_number["68238626"] = "68238626AG" -- MY15 VP4 CAN

-- MY16 WK/KL/DS/ZD
ecu_part_number["68258671"] = "68258671AA" -- MY16 VP3 NA <--- THIS ONE IS PROBLEMATIC

ecu_part_number["68249986"] = "68249986AA" -- MY16 VP4 NA

ecu_part_number["68258675"] = "68258675AA" -- MY16 VP4 CAN

I have highlighted in red the 2016 radio pn base that 3 or 4 of us (getupkid & mpgrimm2 here, oguttier66 here, and Jake2544 here) have received and had problems with. Don't know how this PN shows as a VP3 in this SW list but VP4 on the back of the radio's housing unless someone is pulling a fast one on the hardware by activating NAV and changing the back cover/sticker somehow.

Just as a reference for the OP later...

2016 Ram 2500 Tradesman 6.7L Diesel w RA2 4 Speed .. converted with..

2016 RA4 NA Part 68258671AA with SW:15.03.6 with ATC Bezel

HVAC Controller :68105017AE (New Quirk parts)

Resistor: 68048901AA (New Quirk parts)

Fan/Blower Harness: 68048906AA (New Quirk parts)

4 Speed Harness Extended Length - HarnessConnection-US

911 Delete Plug - HarnessConnection-US

Only issue is HVAC setting memory when starting up does not retain prior setting.

Just to summarize ogutierr66's 2016 Ram 2500 VP2 4 speed to 2016 VP4 7 speed conversion ...

ISSUE: ** no HVAC memory retention between start-ups! **

Tried:
- 2015 RA4 radio = no change

- 2nd 2013-2015 Hvac module 68105017AE (on order, not yet installed??)

- 2016 Hvac module 68268187AA = rear defroster button was flashing and no fan control.

------------------------------------------------

@ogutierr66,
there are likely 2-3 other 2016 HVAC module pn's (4 total) that may need to be tried if you already haven't tried the 2nd 2013-2015 68105017AE module??

Not sure who originally researched the HVAC module p/n's for the pre-2016's but the reason I say this is because on the

current 2013-2015's ...
- base 4 speed fan w/o HVAC module > upgrades to 68105017AE (w/7spd fan)
- base 7 speed fan HVAC module > upgrades to 68268186AA (w/7spd fan)
(and I am not sure if either of those would be single zone vs dual zone HVAC)

Status update: Reinstalled the HVAC Controller 68268187AA and let it blink for a while, then it worked as the other controller 68105017AE. But this 87AA controller for 2016 RAM 7 speed has the same issue with memory retention of the HVAC. So two radios and two controller with no memory retention! I GOTTA believe it has to be a 2016 truck issue! Everything works great !! I love the Siri, XM live and HD. I control all HVAC functions. I am chasing the cherry on top though!! Next step is to get the truck flashed to a RA4. I just hate talking to dealers, they are clueless or by the book and don't help very much!

From what I have seen since this started, I think the 2014 seems to work the best. Just wish FCA would quit being so stingy and open up theme access on all the radios. We all know dam well the themes are there!!!!
