6.4 on 37s, how's the power?

Possibly thinking about 37s, my 6.4 has the 3.73 gears and sometimes I haul about 6-8000lbs camping, but usually only have my camper when going over hilly passes, around 3500lbs. Is it doable?

It's doable but adding unsprung weight at all 4 corners will slow it down some, which is what I experienced with mine and 35's.

One way to get back the power is to tune the truck. For your truck that means a tuner, custom tune and a PCM.

What he said ... gears.

I don't like my 35/3.73 combo. Constant down shifts when heading to hunting camp on the highway. Drives me nuts.

I'm planning on 4.56 when I make the switch to 37's.

Meh I'm not doing gears or tuner, plan on going to a Cummins in a year or so.
But I am impatient and want new wheels and tires right now

I have 37's and 3.73's....getting 4.56's as soon as I can. Sweet spot is cruise at 65-70 and in 5th gear, sits right around 2k rpm like that. What sucks is at 75mph rpms are too high in 5th, too low in 6th. Prepare for 10-11mpg.

So is the truck a dog or still has some power to it?

Drives fine IMO, I honestly didn't notice a huge difference. It just has a weird rpm range at usual highway speeds since the big tires throw everything off. I'll have this truck for 10 years though, so I'll be doing nearly every upgrade at some point...at least headers/tune and new gears within the next year to make it easier to drive.

I ordered my 2016 3500 with 4:10 gears, because I knew I was installing 37'so from day one.
I haven't really pulled anything, but the truck is plenty fast and powerful.
Not sure what cruise rpm is.
I'm in the ball park of 11-11.5 might hand calculated for rural driving.
Haven't taken any trips to see what a true highway might is.

What kind of MPG's are you getting with that setup?

With majority highway miles, evic will show 13mpg (70-75mph). Towing a 2500# trailer with 6000# of batteries, I was getting 11mpg on the evic (70mph).

That's not so bad. I drive mostly hiway and with the cold air am averaging about 13.7 with my 35's. I am running a 91 tune though and that bumped my mileage by over 1mpg. I've been thinking about reinstalling the factory tune for the rest of the winter to see how it affects my mileage.

Did you get your Speedo recalibrated? If you didn’t, those numbers are even better than the evic shows cause you are traveling that much further for every rotation of the tire.
