My 06 Z71 had auto 4wd and I hated it and made sure the new truck did not have that feature.
when it kicked in it was like doing a neutral drop on the trans.

That sounds like a issue with the TC, if it's slamming that hard. My drive this morning with 4 auto engaged(wv plow trucks nowhere in sight like usual) had frequent slippage and engagement, due to being behind a school bus(frequent stops) not once did I ever hear or feel it, only knew it was working because as my back end began to slide the front straightened it out as it engaged and off I went.

Suppose to get 12" of snow tonight. First time with this truck. So we will see how well the bw 44-44 does. Should I do 4lock or 4auto?

Try both- I've used 4 auto and 4 lock. I've kept it in 4-auto mostly. 4 lock will give you more torque to the front wheels when it does engage and based on my experience it will stay "locked" until you stop at which point the clutch will disengage until you begin to slip/move again as where 4-auto will engage and disengage as the computer sees fit regardless of acceleration etc.

Just wanted to let everyone know, it snowed for about 5 minutes this morning in south texas ( very rare ). I took out the beast, put it in 4WD and ... well.. i did not get stuck. Clearly this thing is the best of the best.

Mine engages seamlessly. Must be a lucky one. If it actually disengages when you let off the throttle that'd be pretty handy to avoid pushing through slick corners.

I think most people's engage seamless. I've not really seen a rhyme or reason to the people saying " it has to lose traction first ", they all have some sort of end of world apocalypse scenario, yet... noone gets stuck :favorites13:

Been stuck and twisted around more times than I can count......As I said before, bring yours up here and let me try it. If it works, I buy dinner and all the beer you can drink, but I want my dealer to be able to take it apart and make mine exactly to your specs.

Now I know I'm new here and fairly young but I have had my fair share of 4x4 vehicles: Jeep jk, jeep Cherokee sport, chevy 1500 and the list goes on. Many of which had suspension work done by my father and myself to enjoy countless off road/trail experiences.

I'm curious as to what exactly people are doing to get stuck or to burn the TCs up? If I still had my Jeep jk or Cherokee would I think twice about going through a 3ft deep tank trap, probably not but am I going to do that in my 30k+ stock ram? Heck no, I know better than to expect my 5,000lbs truck with no lift or MT tires to pull out of something like that and not get stuck or kill the TC altogether. These trucks are not trail rigs, do I expect my truck to be able to get me to my hunting spot sure, but I'm not going to wade through a river or a 4ft mud hole while getting there. It's one thing to push the truck but it's another to know it's limits. Now on the other hand if people are getting stuck in 6" of snow and burning up their TCs then we definitely got a problem but I am hard pressed to believe that is what's going on.

I didn't get stuck but it was close. And the reason I almost got stuck was because the tcase was getting hot due to the clutches engaging and disengaging and struggling to "lock" while driving in soft sandy terrain. Take a look at my avatar and you'll see the terrain. In no way shape or form should I have had any issues. Dagum "tcase overheating, dimished performace" message popped up and boy was I pisseed. I was just cruising around with my wife and 3 little girls on AFB reservation.............nothing extreme or difficult, or so I thought.

Great way to find out your trucks limitations. Either way disappointed but now I know what I've really got

And for the record, I'm an avid offroader and have been out on that reservation more times than I can count, NEVER EVER had an issue like this with any other vehicle while in "4 lock".

Yeah, I gotta agree on this. I wouldn't expect the TC to overheat on that type of terrain. I have no complaints thus far with my 44-44 but I'm beginning to wonder why ram didn't just stick with the 44-45 across the board.

I will let you know in a few hours if I like it or not...

We got blasted with snow last night here in the south to the tune of 10-ish inches. (yes this is a lot for the area I live in). I need to get a relative to the airport and my wife has the JGC Overland out of town right now so I will be taking the Ram.

I sure wish i had the Jeep.

I don't think you need your jeep for that. You should be fine. This thread has got people so damn spooked. There is nothing wrong with this case. There is only a few that have problems with it. Everybody just needs to put there big boy pants on and hit the 4wd button, and go get some bread and milk and beer.:happy107:

Question, is this the same one that was in the 2011's? I had the auto 4wd in my 2011 and loved it. Have it on the 2016 but haven't really used it yet

I am not at all spooked. My Sport had the 4x4 Auto and I ran it in ~4" last year. The Jeep is just a ****ton better at it. I grew up in the frozen north, so I am no stranger to the snow :)

Easy, the transfercase doesnt stay engaged, if it senses equal traction the front disengages then spin, re-engage... In the right scenarios its a god awful sound.

I would love to see a side by side comparison of the NV246 and the BW44-44 disassembled

After reading and posting on this tread I've learned that once you go past the Outdoorsman trim you automatically get the 44-44 TC. Except for leather and lumbar support on passenger side you can load up an Outdoorsman with just about every option available. Any thoughts?
