DEF Date Code

The date code on the BlueDEF box

GA153590089

break this down into 4 groups of numbers:

GA: The designator of the plant that manufactured the DEF
15: The year of manufacture plus 1, so this DEF was made in 2014
359: 365-359 = 6, so the 6th day of the year, or January 6th.
0089: The batch code.

So this box of DEF was made January 6th, 2014.

From what I’ve read storage life is 2 years @ 75°F or so.
Stored properly!
Any higher temps then this under storage will result in a much shorter lifespan.

I have got to find a good place to which I can always purchase fresh DEF.

Since DEF is 67% deionized water and 33% urea I wonder if you could use your own ***** and distilled water? There is virtually no difference between distilled and deionized water.

March, 2018 To: All Ford and Lincoln Dealers Subject: Reminder of Conditions affecting Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Shelf Life and Fluid Quality Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) has been required for the 2011 MY and forward diesel vehicles to meet 2010 EPA emission regulations. DEF is a non-hazardous clear fluid (67% deionized water / 33% chemically pure Urea) that is injected into the diesel exhaust system to reduce NOx emissions. The following communication provides guidelines on DEF and the proper storage levels to maintain the chemical concentrations advertised on the label. DEF INVENTORY STORAGE LEVELS • If a climate controlled facility is available, for maximum shelf life, store between 68o F (20o C) and 23 o F

........

Human ***** is only like a 5% urea to 95% water. Not in the concentration percentage needed nor would be recommended. Plus industrial grade urea is heavily synthesized and a more stable format than playing junior chemist with ones **** for a alternate DEF fluid.

I created this guide for myself (the day after I brought my RAM home) which I keep on my phone as well as my cabinet in the garage.

Also found out through a bit of leg work. In my area the local WM sells a boat load of Peak (Box) DEF. The dates on the shelf are always within the previous month of production.

I guess in my world ya just can’t control how $hit turns out when the final #’s are tabulated.

Only thing that matters is I understand those Final #’s & they are fairy accurate.
:boobs:

That’s the end result of doing the right thing and allowing 30 days per each month within my chart. Since I won’t redo it each year. It works pretty pretty pretty good for myself.

Thank you for pointing that out Hoot!
I only wonder if 3-4 days will actually play a major part in my chart as well as the spoilage of a few gallons of DEF? :deal: Probably Not!

Ok! No biggie!
It went into my DEF Tank as of yesterday.
Stopped into WM & picked up a gallon jug of Peak & added it also.

Going to buy a reusable DEF jug from 5 Star DEF & just start filling the jug from the local Shell truck stop.
