Just put on new tires and went with falken wildpeak at3w 315.70.17 on stock 2017 black pw rims i picked up off craigslist

Tirebuyer is having a sale and came in under a grand installed

Only been a day but so far my mpg is up 1mpg compared to stock and ride is less harsh... this factors in speedo being off 7%

Gear ratio is effectively around 3.9 more or less...

Completely opposite what i was expecting... i was ready to lose 1mpg and harsher ride due to unsprung weight...

Will see if it changes in a few thousand miles... so far very happy with my choice..

No rubbing so far but haven't gone offroad yet...

I dont have a leadfoot so probably helps..

Do you mind sharing how much you paid for the rims? I'm looking to sell mine (including tires) and curious what an expected price is.

Did you recalibrate the odo?
No... planning to at some point... 230$ for hypertech has to wait unless dealer can do for less... will check with dealer next month

I'm worried when i tow though how much power loss I'll notice

Docpaula,

Just a suggestion from a retired bean counter who always tended to check over my figures to keep from worrying about a billion dollar error. The stock Duratrac 285 70R17 on the 2014+ Power Wagons is listed as 33" diameter, whereas, the Falken AT3W 315 70/R17 is 34.6". That's 4.485% larger or approximately 5%. Maybe I am not looking at the same tire sizes and so it is possible that the difference could be the 7% that you stated earlier.

I'll be interested to see my mpg after I put new wheels/tires on, but I've only got about 9 fillups to base it off of though.

The earlier difference was after factoring in tire diameter difference...

I now have my speedo recalibrated and i still see about 1mpg improvement highway and even to just a bit better with local driving... so at least with my pw and 4.1 gears and the way i drive... the tires caused no penalty...

Honestly was ready for 1 to 2 mpg loss... being even is awesome

I found how one would calculate the 7% difference such as on tiresize.com between a 285 70 17 tire and a 35x12.5x17. Their calculated figures are based on what the tire size should be, but each tire manufacturer makes their tire sizes to their own specifications.

Glad to read and see that the Falken Wildpeak 315 70 17 fit nicely and takes the stock 8" wheel width.

Having done a similar swap previously on my 2013, I noticed little, if any loss in MPG. Where I did notice a bit of a step down in performance was not in pulling power, but in getting it stopped, especially when loaded up heavy or towing a larger trailer.

The ride may be better due to the lighter load range, running reduced air pressures or both. Neither of which seemed to impact my MPG either, even when aired down quite low.

Definitely a slight change in stopping power...

Something changed other than rims and or tires.....Goin from a 50% used tire to a brand new of same type on same rim would drop mpg....So something else has changed...You dont gain mpg with new tires

Not same tire... went from stock 32 to 34s... lower final drive ratio... this potentially can improve highway mpg but drop local mpg due to heavier tire and stop and go

My final drive is now closer to 3.9 from stock 4.10

I also now have a diablo 87 tune... not sure how much that helped...

I know its not same tire im just sayin..Goin from old to new of same and you will loose mpg, more rolling resistance..So as i said, something else changed if mpg went up to which i have to question..
